Job Details
Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the CFO is a key member of the senior leadership team, providing strong decision support and expertise in financial analysis, budgeting, fiscal accountability, and internal control. Conducts due diligence, and provides advice on financial, legal, liability, and regulatory issues.
Specific Duties:
Directs annual budget process for operating, restricted, and capital funding. Works collaboratively with fundraising and development staff to track annual funds, grants, and restricted donations and capital campaigns. Works closely with Director of Human Resources on payroll, retirement plan and health care plans. Administers self-insured health plan through employee benefits group captive.
Manages the treasury functions and coordinates activities with banking partners, fund managers, and investment consultants for a large and complex Endowment. Oversees audit process and preparation of annual financial reports, tax returns, and regulatory filings. Manages the retirement plan and fulfills audit and regulatory requirements. Negotiates and oversees property and liability risk programs.
Attends quarterly Board meetings and provides financial analysis, reporting, and support to the Committee Chairs for Audit and Finance, Investment, and Organization and Compensation. Supervises two staff accountants.
Minimum Experience and Required Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting required, MBA, CPA desired or equivalent experience. Minimum seven to ten years of related experience in a nonprofit organization, including management of gifts, grants, restricted funds and endowments. Strong analytical skills and experience with data manipulation, using querying tools, Excel and financial accounting software (SL Dynamics, ADP, Sage). Strong communication skills and solid experience in Board presentations and reporting.
