Chief Financial Officer - Family Office
Chief Financial Officer for highly successful and growing family office. This passive investment company has over $200mm in assets under management including commercial and residential real estate, public and private equity investments and multiple others.
Target compensation: approximately $250-275K base salary.
Location: West Los Angeles. Applicants must be local to Southern California, West LA preferred or able to relocate within 2-4 weeks.
Must be willing to work on-site – this is not a remote role nor does it have a formal hybrid schedule.
NOTE:
This position has extensive strategic CFO responsibilities, but the chosen person must be willing to be hands-on in all things accounting/finance as well.
The role will supervise a Controller and several accountants so the position shouldn’t be bogged down in too much detail, but the ideal person will need to be intimately involved in all areas of accounting as well as being a strategic advisor to the CEO.
If you have 5+ years of recent CFO experience, are willing to roll up your sleeves managing the accounting team, and can be a key leader of the executive team as well as help influence the entire business, this role may be right for you.
Position
Reporting to and partnering with the CEO and executive leadership team, the CFO will be the top finance person in the company and will play a critical role in investment strategy for the organization.
As a member of the senior leadership team, the CFO will be a key adviser, evaluating and assisting with financial plans and performing economic modeling including reviewing performance of existing investments, making recommendation for future investments, evaluation of stock and real estate portfolios and analysis of private equity and private placements.
The CFO will also be responsible for underwriting and financial due diligence for potential new investments and modeling IRR, NPV and ROI.
Fundamentals:
- Produce financials
- Manage the accounting team (Controller plus staff)
- Assure policies and procedures are maintained
- Overall finance, planning and analysis (budgeting, forecasting) and strategy
- Investment reporting
- Cash management analysis
- Review insurance requirements
- Asset management
- Review acquisitions and dispositions
- Oversee refinance activities
- Manage stock, real estate, PE as well as private placements
- Review contracts and operating agreements
- Review legal, loan, JV, and all other agreements and covenants
- Maintain relationships with banks and investors
Requirements:
The CFO will be a seasoned and mature leader with at least 10+ years of underwriting and analyzing a broad investment portfolio including real estate acquisition and development.
The ideal person will have a CPA and/or MBA (although may be substituted for outstanding and relevant experience) and will have experience gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership in a family office setting.
S/he will have at least 5 years (or more) as a CFO and have extensive experience managing all finance functions (accounting, budgeting, internal controls, systems and reporting) for an investment company with a diverse portfolio of assets (among other experience and does not have to be this exclusively – additional industries or experiences welcome as well.)
Must be hands on and willing to dive into the detail but also function at a higher elevation for strategy and planning purposes.
10+ years of experience overseeing the complete accounting process through to the preparation of financial statements; ownership of all operational accounting including AP, AR, billing, payroll, reporting, internal controls, and accounting process improvement.
Integrity and a desire to work in a dynamic environment with a small but capable team – MUST HAVE some small company experience and be looking for long-term employment.
Mature and proactive with evidence of having worked as a true business partner to a CEO, Board, Owner, High Net Worth Individual, etc.
Strong analytical skills including IRR, NPV, and ROI modeling as well as experience interpreting financial data of all kinds.
An effective communicator at all levels in the organization, with strong oral and written skills and a willingness to share information.
A collaborative and flexible style, with a strong service mentality.
Creativity with experience funding activities in ways that cover both costs and operating margins.
