Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Chief Engineer for the M/V Independence, supporting the Navy Division.
The Chief Engineer ensures the vessel’s systems are maintained in a seaworthy, clean and safe manner. The Chief Engineer maintains all shipboard systems including, but not limited to propulsion, electrical, electronic, fuel, hydraulic, sanitation and potable water systems.
JOB DETAILS
LOCATION: Ventura, CA
JOB STATUS: Full Time
TRAVEL: 50% (Even time rotation)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:
Graduate of a state or federal maritime academy, or U.S. Naval or Coast Guard Academy, as a Marine Engineer, or U.S. Naval schools or equivalent in propulsion; Machinist Mate; Engineman; Damage Control; Air Conditioning and Refrigeration; etc.
A total of 5 years of experience as a licensed Chief Engineer aboard comparable or larger vessels may be substituted for the formal education requirement.
- Top Secret SCI eligibility; Must be able to obtain a Secret clearance within 90 days. Current U.S. Citizenship Required
- Shall hold an open ocean license as chief engineer of inspected motor vessels powered by not less than 2500 HP diesel engines with a minimum of three years’ experience as Chief Engineer in that class.
Experience as a First Engineer unlimited HP will be considered in lieu of Chief limited.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Engine department lead.
- Maintains equipment, spares and hazardous material inventories.
- Maintains vessel equipment, performing routine and preventative maintenance as well as corrective maintenance.
- Conducts fuel oil soundings and prepare fuel reports.
- Maintains records on all vessel systems.
- Operate machinery and engineering systems.
- Maintain and enforce shipboard safety programs.
- Assists in the purchasing and ordering from vendors.
- Assists in the preparation of corporate documents, contract deliverables and other paperwork as directed.
- Conduct fuel oil and engineering consumables transfers, loading and discharges.
- Coordinates engine department schedule.
- Trains and develops assistant engineers.
All other duties as assigned.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
Kongsberg KPOS DP maintainer, DP vessel experience, experience with power management systems, experience with CAT propulsion and power generating diesel engines. Prior experience operating, maintaining, and using hydraulic and electrohydraulic research vessel type deck equipment.
Compensation and work schedule information:
- Starting pay: $58.08-$64/hr*
- Even time, 3 weeks on/off OR 4 weeks on/off
*depending on experience, certifications, and qualifications
