About the Job
The Chief Deputy Registrar conducts local, state and federal elections and performs the duties of the General Registrar in their absence. This position also executes and supervises the recruitment, appointment, oaths, official policies, training and payroll of election officials who work the polls.
The starting range for this position is $63,793.60 - $87,713.60, DOQ.

Essential Job Functions
Secures availability of facilities; ensures locations/precincts receive appropriate equipment and materials; programs electronic poll books; prepares software program; deploys on flash drives to each precinct.
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff: manages/monitors election operations; resolves problems on Election Day and day after to ensure uniform elections; and assists with ascertainment and official documentation of election results.
Processes voter registration applications; maintains voter rolls; assists voters with registration procedures; administers absentee voting in-person, by mail, email, and fax.
Meets a complex set of deadlines assisting General Registrar with preparing and transmitting ballots to voters via mail or email in accordance with Federal and State law.
Manages election officials; creates recruitment materials; assists with training of election officials; administers applications and oaths; manages database of officials; maintains mail and email distribution lists; generates communication and correspondence.
Assists candidates for elected office; verifies petitions; provides documents and information in accordance with election laws.
Monitors, interprets and implements complex and changing laws. Stays current with required document storage retention times and disposal in accordance with the Library of Virginia and any additional laws and policies.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Associate's Degree in Business Administration, Office Management, or related field required; supplemented by one year of related administrative experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Bilingual fluency in the English and Spanish languages is strongly preferred.
Special Requirements
Must be a registered voter in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Must be able to work extended hours as necessary, both during the week and on weekends.
Must be able to travel to required out-of-town meetings and training for state-mandated training and certification.
Must maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information and office functions.
Must have proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite.
Must have good customer service skills including ability to deescalate controversial situations while maintaining political neutrality.
Must be able to prioritize and organize administrative work, including the training and supervision of staff assistant(s).
