The Chief Accounting Officer is primarily responsible for accounting/finance operations, including, but not limited to, financial close process and SEC filings, revenue recognition, cash and AR management, internal controls, audit and tax oversight and support, managing and providing leadership and oversight to the Finance staff. Responsible for preparing and/or reviewing financial statements and reports, special accounting reports, and regulatory reports.
Essential Functions
- Oversees and directs activities of the Finance department and staff, providing administrative and operational support and assistance as needed and required.
- Prepares special accounting reports for management and the board.
- Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.
- Perform analysis of financial results and conclude cause of variances.
- Ensure robust controls are in place to support timely and accurate production of statutory, regulatory, and any other financial reports as required.
- Participates in oversight and management of exposure levels related, but not limited, to capital adequacy, liquidity, credit, and asset liability management.
- Plans, schedules, and monitors the annual departmental budgeting process, including but not limited to, budget forecasts; reports significant budget differences to management.
- Assists in the processes related to completion, analysis/review, and timely submission of required regulatory reporting to various applicable regulatory bodies.
- Supports the Chief Financial Officer in various duties and projects.
- Exercises the usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, training, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, and terminations.
- Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
- Provides financial analysis, with emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
- Works with external auditors and supervises the collection of needed information for the audits.
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
- Responsible for staff development, motivation, and performance management.
- Monitors changes to GAAP, RAP, and internal changes from business transactions that impact regulatory reporting and execute regulatory change management practices, including developing and implementing processes to comply with new financial reporting requirements.
- Assists in the development of process efficiencies, data quality improvement projects, and technology enhancement initiatives, including assessment and implementation of financial hierarchy changes.
- Assist with closing the books, sub-ledgers, and consolidation processes.
- Participates in development and financial analysis related, but not limited, to budgeting forecasting, projecting, and strategic planning.
- Utilizes appropriate methods for interacting sensitively, effectively, and professionally with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, ethnic and professional backgrounds, and persons of all ages and lifestyle preferences.
- Accountable for the understanding of and adherence to operational controls, policies, procedures and processes to ensure compliance with bank policies and related laws and regulations.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.
Position Requirements (Knowledge/Skills/Abilities)
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles, methods and procedures, and regulatory reporting requirements as applicable to financial institutions.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive), and the ability to learn other software programs and browser-based applications.
- Understanding of regulatory reporting instructions & banking regulations, trend analysis preparation/movements, end-to-end regulatory report production life cycle, and preparation of written communication to management and to regulators in a clear, concise, and useful manner.
- Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to distill and convey information in a compelling manner.

Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- Minimum of eight (8) years' experience in Finance in a managerial or Controller level position.
- Experience working in the Finance department of a financial institution preferred.
- CPA license preferred.
- Experience with Regulatory reporting for a publicly traded financial institution preferred.
- Working experience with Prologue preferred.
