They are one of the world's largest producers of nitrogen and phosphate. They have a number of opportunities for Chemical Process/Production Engineers at their site location in Eastern North Carolina.

Duties and responsibilities:
The Chemical Process/Production Engineer is responsible for optimizing the operation of the departmental equipment, while making sure that neither safety nor the environment is compromised. The incumbent ensures that the quality and production goals are accomplished. Maintenance issues, which inhibit the efficient operation of the process equipment, are addressed either through modifications and the work order system or by requesting capital funds for improvements. Employee training must be conducted to communicate changes in operating parameters as well as dealing with newly installed equipment. The incumbent will also be responsible for the department material balance along with monthly and annual production forecasting/budgeting. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Identify and implement cost savings projects
- Assist identification and implementation of safety and environmental improvement projects
- Track and provide recommendations to ensure that production tonnage meets or exceeds plan
- Provide material balance forecasting and assistance with cost forecasting
- Provide root cause analysis leadership and involvement in work management process
- Identify, request and apply capital funds for improvement and sustaining projects
- Manage contract operations activities and spending for cost effectiveness
- Participate in crew meetings on a monthly basis to improve safety and environmental awareness
- Assist in employee training to communicate changes in operating parameters as well as dealing with newly installed equipment
- Maintain product quality and profitability by controlling the supply and consumption of process chemicals, setting up and monitoring quality systems which place responsibility for quality on the operators, and investigating in-process quality concerns
- Initiate and coordinate immediate and long-term change and continual improvement of operations through the use of teams
- Ensure area safety and compliance with Occupational Safety Health Administration and environmental regulations
- Defend the concerns of the department to upper management and other departments, and enhance the image of the company in the community
- Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products or equipment. Position is a staff specialist who is recognized as a technical expert within the division
- Work with the operators to troubleshoot and resolve operating issues (both equipment and process related)
- Manage the department Process Safety Management program and maintain the PSI database
- This position requires a high degree of 'people' skills in addition to the technical aspects of the job--customer complaint resolution, safety and environmental presentations, plant tests, procedure modifications, coordination with state agencies and quality teams are key elements of this job
- Be willing to respond to plant and operator issues at any time of day or night
Skills and experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering
- Minimum 7-15 years' Chemical industry experience
- Experience in continuous chemical manufacturing is preferred
- Experience with Sulfuric Acid or Chemical process and handling is preferred
- Supervisory experience is preferred
- Process Safety Management (PSM) experience is preferred
