Job Description:
The Charge Nurse is responsible for overseeing the nursing staff during their shift, ensuring that residents receive the highest standard of care. This role involves coordinating patient care, managing nursing activities, and acting as a liaison between staff, residents, and their families. The Charge Nurse plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe, efficient, and supportive environment for both residents and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and support nursing staff, ensuring that all care is provided in accordance with facility policies and standards.
- Coordinate patient care activities, including admissions, discharges, and transfers.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
- Monitor and assess residents' conditions, addressing any changes or concerns promptly.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of resident care and conditions.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Assist with training and mentoring new staff members.
- Participate in care planning meetings and provide input on resident care plans.
- Respond to emergencies and provide direct nursing care as needed.
- Promote a culture of safety, respect, and excellence among staff and residents.
Qualifications:
- Current, valid RN or LPN license in the state.
- Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility.
- Strong clinical skills and knowledge of nursing principles and practices.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of resident care and regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency in healthcare software systems and electronic health records (EHR).
