Akron Children's has an exciting opportunity for a visionary leader to drive the strategic direction and be the primary advocate for the Departments faculty, clinical, research, quality and educational programs. Responsible for the oversight and leadership for the Department, ensuring that high quality services are provided through the physicians, advanced practice providers and trainees, clinical and administrative staff of the Department. We are searching for a renowned leader recognized in the clinical, quality and academic community and among medical staff for commitment to excellence in all areas. The candidate should actively support and advocate for the professional and career development of the Departments clinical staff. Works closely and in collaboration with a vice president administrative dyad. In addition, lead, foster and support a diverse culture that motivates and incorporates accountability for pursuing continuous improvement while providing care to patients that is high quality, safe, efficient, equitable, timely and patient-centered. May propose, sponsor and support clinical programs under the auspices of the Department, and will facilitate collaboration with other teams, clinical practices and Departments, when clinically and strategically appropriate. Will lead and collaborate with multiple Divisions within the Department, including cardiac, pain, burn as well as ambulatory anesthesia. Will serve as a leader to support Peri-operative staffing and growth, including being an active Perioperative Leadership Team member and working closely with hospital leadership to advance.
Under the direction of the Chief Clinical Officer, Tarun Bhalla, MD, MBA, this is an opportunity to be part of an innovative, transformative team and lead the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and help to deliver the best possible care to the children of Northeast Ohio and beyond.
The successful candidate will join a well-established team of 20 Pediatric Anesthesiologists, 40+ CRNAs as well as medical students, trainees, residents and fellows, to provide anesthesia and pain management services to tens of thousands of young patients each year. Akron Childrens Hospitals anesthetic volume for 2023 were almost 21,000 cases for all Pediatric Specialties, including, but not limited to, a Level I Burn Center, Neonatal Intensive Care, a Level I Trauma Center, Acute Pain, Cardiac and Non-OR Anesthesia Services.
Qualifications:
Certification by the American Board of Anesthesiology, with Pediatric focus. Requisite fellowship training and board eligibility/certification experience is required. Required is appointment in good standing to the hospitals medical staff, as well as an appropriate academic appointment at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. Maintains an active license to practice medicine within the State of Ohio, as well as DEA certification. Strong communication (verbal and written), leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills required.
Requirements: The incumbent will be board eligible or board certified in Pediatric Anesthesia, and will have the ability to obtain an active medical license in the state of Ohio.
