Responsibilities
Provide evaluation of and care for patients with respiratory insufficiencies.
- Assess patient for appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develop a plan of care based on diagnosis.
- Implement and monitor patient care plan and equipment.
- Monitor, record and communicate patient condition.
- Perform advanced respiratory care modalities.
- Evaluate respiratory practice, administration of medications, and treatment based on patient outcomes.
- Educate the patient and family about the health condition and provide information about community support groups and other available programs.
- Assist with care, calibration and maintenance of all equipment.
- Participate in maintaining departmental inventory levels for supplies and equipment.
- Process equipment per established cleaning/sterilization procedures.
- Respond to emergency resuscitation team calls.
Requirements
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
- BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
- Respiratory Care Practitioner credentialed from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation obtained within 4 Months (120 days) of hire date or job transfer date. New graduates must have receipt of payment for application to Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) upon hire.
- Respiratory Therapist credentialed from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) preferred. New grads must have proof of passing entry level exam, Cert Radiologic Technologist. Proof can include; passing scores, cert from the National Board for Respiratory Care or letter from the National Board for Respiratory Care stating passing of exam.
Education:
- High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
