About the Job
Reports to the Manager of Advanced Pharmacy Services. Under the direct supervision of the Staff Pharmacist, performs various duties to assist the pharmacist to prepare and dispense prescription and physicians' orders.

Assists the pharmacist to prepare and dispense prescription and patient orders:
- Takes prescription refill orders and enters the orders in the computer.
- Retrieves, counts, and bottles medications.
- Enters cash transactions as per policy.
- Checks prices, inventory and places new merchandise in stock.
- Assists customers and answers the telephone.
- Prepares sterile and non-sterile preparations as per compounding worksheets.
Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:
- Initiates and/or coordinates special projects.
- Performs other job related duties and projects as assigned.
Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience
- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent and successful completion of a pharmacy technician training program approved by the State of Indiana. Current certification through the State of Indiana is required.
Knowledge & Skills
- Requires the ability to comprehend technical and/or pharmaceutical terminology and nomenclature.
- Requires the ability to perform mathematical calculations to accurately compute percentages, decimals, and fractions.
- Requires the ability to complete clerical tasks including filing, typing forms and creating labels.
- Demonstrates good interpersonal skills to interact with customers, physicians, nurses, and other contacts in a professional, enthusiastic, helpful, friendly, and sincere manner.
- Demonstrates the ability to operate a computer, calculator, and cash register.
- Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic techniques and is able to learn and perform sterile and non-sterile compounding procedures.
Working Conditions
- Works in a retail pharmacy or home infusion pharmacy environment.
- Occasional exposure to potentially hazardous preparations.
Physical Demands
- Requires the physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position.
