SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the SUD Clinical Manager, the Certified Peer Recovery Specialist role serves to support others in recovery from a substance use disorder. The Recovery Specialist will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. The Certified Peer Recovery Specialist must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences and to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Peer Support Specialist will assist SUD Director(s) with Level 1 and Level 2.5 recovery
treatment programs that shall provide a minimum of 8 hours (Level 1) and 20 hours (Level 2.5) of
substance use disorder treatment services weekly.
2. The Peer Support Specialist shall work in the SUD Program division within Prestige and therefore
comply with all mandated services for providing treatment to behavioral health and SUD consumers,
structure, organization, training, human resources, staffing, policy, and procedure. Additionally, the
Peer Support Specialist shall comply with all Prestige Health Care, DC Department of Behavioral
Health, and Chapter 63 municipal guidelines.
3. SUD supervisor will confirm that Peer Support Specialist services are included in the consumers
treatment plan and that the Peer Support Specialist participates in the treatment planning service.
4. Assists in group facilitation and co-facilitation, completes daily progress encounter notes for groups,
completes WRAP progress notes and ensures input of notes within 24 hours. Participates in mandated
morning meetings and/or morning calls. Must provide individual sessions daily to clients. Must provide minimum of 38 hours of weekly billing (individual sessions).
5. Share personalized lived experience story in a 1:1 setting, as well as group setting to provide a model
for both consumers in recovery and staff by demonstrating that SUD recovery is achievable.
Understands the unique role of the peer, using self as a therapeutic presence.
6. Attend trainings, seminars, workshops and webinars as it pertains to job development. Peer Support
Specialist shall receive annual training that includes a comprehensive presentation on SUD relapse,
suicide prevention, interventions, and the importance of integrated health and mental health services
with substance use treatment emphasis.
7. Assist with recording keeping via EMS to appropriate files for consumers including uploading
information to ensure consumers treatment files are accurate/updated.
8. Provide recovery education to service recipients for every phase of the recovery journey from
pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization, and sustained recovery
maintenance.
9. Check voicemails and emails on a daily and consistent manner. All communication must be
acknowledged and returned within a 24 hour period.
10. Communicate both orally and written to supervisor, staff, peers and consumers.
11. Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records, Microsoft Office Suite and Credible EMR.
12. Peer Support Specialist must maintain integrity, professionalism and code of ethics at all times. Peer
Support Specialist must understand boundaries and cannot have dual/conflicting relationship with
consumers.
13. Must receive HIPAA training and abide by HIPAA guidelines when conducting official and
unofficial Prestige business.
14. Assist clinicians with presentation of Orientation to new consumers. Also will have personalized
sessions with consumers not meeting target goals for on-going sobriety to stay on 12 week Living in
Balance Treatment course.
15. Assist with Discharge Planning (if needed) and transition of care for SUD consumers.
16. Encourages and assists consumers in self advocacy, including behavioral health and SUD services.
17. Facilitate recovery plans from an institute implemented plan to a self-implemented one.
18. Participates in weekly Clinical Rounds to monitor client’s progression in treatment and Company Level 10 meetings. Must participate in weekly supervision from Clinical Director.

This job operates in a professional office environment.

This would require moderate physical activity.
POSITION TYPEAND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position. This position has to be re-certified yearly. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
TRAVEL
Occasional travel within the Washington, DC Metro Area.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. High school diploma.
2. One year of administrative experience.
3. Complete Recovery and Wellness Action Planning (WRAP) and receive certification.
4. Receive a minimum of 6 hours of direct supervision before working directly with consumers.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. Associate’s degree.
2. Two years of related experience.
3. Previous Peer Support Specialist experience and Certified in the District of Columbia.
4. History of SUD and Mental Health personal recovery
5. Familiar with EMR (Credible)
