GLFHC is currently seeking an Associate Vice President, Nursing. Reporting to the SVP / Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), the AVP is responsible for ensuring that nursing and medical assistant (MA) practices meet all regulatory compliance requirements, scope of practice standards and evidence based models of care. In this role, the AVP will integrate into practices and assume a hands on approach in supporting the Nurse Managers, including coverage leadership as needed. The AVP provides leadership and direction to Nurse Managers and within that clinical leadership context, develops the Nurse Managers to practice to their fullest leadership potential in their roles. In this role, the AVP will ensure and maintain the highest standards for RN and MA practice and will collaborate with site operations leaders, compliance leaders and medical directors to ensure the delivery of patient care meets quality outcomes. The AVP collaborates with the CNO to design, implement and continuously evaluate the quality and impact of RN and MA programs that support patient care and the needs of the populations served. The AVP is a role model for the nursing staff and promotes a professional practice environment that fosters teamwork, collaboration and optimizes the delivery of patient centered care.
Position Responsibilities include:
- Ensures visibility at all practices sites by maintaining a structured rounding schedule that provides a vehicle for staff engagement, mentorship, open communication, observation of work flows and identifying opportunities for improvement
- Oversees the quality and appropriateness of nursing services (RN, LPN and MA) delivered to patients at the Health Center and helps support the overall day to day direction, coordination and evaluation of the nursing and clinical support department
- Responsible for developing, maintaining and revising RN and MA policies, procedures and clinical protocols and patient education material that support evidence based practice and regulatory compliance
- In collaboration with the Vice President, participates in developing, implementing and evaluating clinical nursing programs and ensures they are designed to meet the needs of the Health Center’s population. Ensures that nursing practice competencies required to support such programs are developed and maintain
- Ensures RN and MA workflows are standardized across all practices and that staff are in compliance with following documented processes
- In collaboration with the AVP of Operations and Medical Directors, monitors performance based on clinical and operational metrics and identifies opportunities for improvement
- Collaborates with medical provider staff in the development of Clinical Practice Guidelines
- Develops, implements, coordinates and evaluates new employee orientation programs, professional development initiatives, and ongoing/annual competency/skills review for nursing and MA staff
- Provides leadership to broad patient care strategic initiatives as directed by the CNO
- Reviews existing clinical programs and participates in developing and planning new clinical programs to advance the mission of the Health Center
- Participates in various committees as applicable to scope of practice and the needs of the organization
- Coordinates reports for bi-monthly Patient Care Committee meeting.
- Reviews all clinical incident reports involving nursing and patient care complaints, including completing trend analysis. Follow up on all reports with a recommended action to the CNO, nurse managers, operations leaders and medical directors
- Participates with the Site Operations Managers in planning staffing levels for nursing personnel at all sites.
- Works with Site Operations Managers and nurse managers to develop nursing position control worksheets
- Supports Human Resources on issues involving delineation of job responsibilities, nurse recruitment, and career growth for nurses, nursing management development, licensure, training, and nurse retention.
- Contributes to organizational wide improvement initiatives and ensures nurse and MA process improvement is integrated into overall quality management structure
- Supports the organization infection prevention program and ensures all nursing and MA practice aligns with established policies, programs and DPH regulations. Plays a key role in data collection, analysis, reporting, including making recommendations for practice
- Serves as a liaison to the LGH laboratory staff to identify and resolve quality issues.
- Act as a nursing liaison to hospital (LGH) nursing to collaborate in appropriate educational opportunities and/or resolve clinical issue
Requirements
Experience:
- 5 years or greater of progressive management experience in fast paced settings, including acute and ambulatory care where teamwork and collaboration drives the delivery of patient care
- Demonstrated experience working with a diverse workforce and patient population
- Ability to think critically to analyze and solve complex problems while supporting a diverse workforce and patient population
- Working knowledge of regulatory compliance i.e. Joint Commission, NCQA/PCMH, DPH
- Confident leader with strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to make decisions independently
- Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and multi-task as needed
- Understands the basic of quality improvement and managing data
Education
- RN, BSN MS in nursing or other health related field desirable
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Massachusetts
