Job Description: CNA - LTC
Shift: Days & Eve (8 hour shift)
Contract Length: 8 to 13 weeks
Location: Stromburg NE
Pay: $29 local / $32 travel
Job Summary:
The CNA in an LTC facility is responsible for providing essential care and support to elderly or disabled residents, ensuring their comfort, safety, and overall well-being. The role involves assisting with personal care tasks, monitoring residents’ health, and working closely with nursing staff to implement care plans.
Key Responsibilities:
Personal Care Assistance:
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and eating.
- Provide mobility assistance, including helping residents move, transfer, or reposition.
- Assist with range-of-motion exercises as directed by healthcare providers.
Patient Monitoring:
- Observe and document residents’ physical and emotional health, reporting any changes or concerns to the nursing staff.
- Take vital signs, such as temperature, pulse, respiration rate, and blood pressure.
- Record and report any signs of distress, illness, or injury to supervisors.
Medical Support:
- Assist with basic medical tasks, such as changing dressings or administering medications under supervision.
- Help with the application of treatments as instructed by nurses and physicians.
- Support in positioning and feeding residents, ensuring dietary needs are met.
Emotional and Social Support:
- Provide companionship and engage residents in activities to promote social interaction and mental well-being.
- Assist residents in maintaining independence as much as possible, offering encouragement and support.
- Maintain respect for residents’ dignity, privacy, and cultural preferences.
Hygiene and Cleanliness:
- Help with maintaining a clean and safe environment for the residents by ensuring that rooms, bathrooms, and common areas are tidy.
- Ensure proper sanitation procedures are followed for infection control.
- Assist with laundry, including changing bed linens and clothes as needed.
Communication and Documentation:
- Document and maintain accurate records of residents' care, behavior, and any incidents or changes in their condition.
- Communicate effectively with family members, residents, and the healthcare team to provide updates on care progress.
Collaboration with Healthcare Team:
- Work closely with nurses, doctors, and other healthcare providers to follow individual care plans.
- Assist in the coordination of care between different departments (e.g., physical therapy, dietary, or rehabilitation services).
Qualifications:
Education and Certification:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a state-approved CNA training program.
- Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the state of employment.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required.
Skills and Experience:
- Compassionate and patient demeanor, with a genuine desire to help others.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and infection control practices.
- Physical stamina and ability to assist with lifting, transferring, and moving patients.
Work Environment:
- Long-Term Care facilities, nursing homes, or similar healthcare settings.
- May require working nights, weekends, and holidays depending on the facility’s scheduling needs.
- Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
- Emotional resilience required to care for residents who may be experiencing chronic illnesses or terminal conditions.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and assist residents, sometimes weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to move or transport patients using wheelchairs, walkers, or stretchers.
This role is integral to the health and well-being of residents in a Long-Term Care setting, as CNAs often spend the most time with residents, providing both physical care and emotional support.
