Marshalltown Hospital
Full-Time; days/evenings with holiday and weekend rotation
The Medical Laboratory Technician position is responsible for performing laboratory tests and analyses in the hematology, blood bank, special chemistry, chemistry and microbiology departments in the laboratory. Associate must present record of certification to the Laboratory Director within 1 year of employment and/or within 90 days of expiration of MLT/CLA certification.
The Medical Laboratory Technician performs routine laboratory testing, laboratory specimen collection and is responsible for quality control and regular maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Responsibilities:Clinical Excellence
- Performs routine lab testing in hematology, blood bank, special chemistry, chemistry and microbiology departments following proper laboratory procedure and follow up of critical lab values.
- Other duties as assigned
Quality of Care
- Performs and verifies quality control and instrument maintenance and troubleshooting
Care Coordination
- Collect, receive and process laboratory samples and send outs following proper laboratory procedures
Employee Development
- Assists in teaching students and new employees principles and procedures of laboratory testing
Inventory/Supply Coordination
- Perform inventory management and other miscellaneous tasks as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree and Degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science OR Qualify as Testing Personnel under Federal Register Sec 493.1489
- MLT-ASCP or CLA (non-regulatory)
- Must be able to read, write and speak English.
- Must possess basic computer skills and knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email and web browser
- Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
