Summary:

Vighter is recruiting multiple Certified Medical Instrument Technicians (CMIT and/or Cardiology Technicians) to provide service within the Miami VA Medical Center facilities, particularly in the cardiology field. The Miami VA is located at 1201 Northwest 16^th Street. Technicians perform echocardiograms and other diagnostic imaging, to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular and other conditions. This role requires expertise in operating specialized imaging equipment, capturing high-quality heart images, and providing accurate data to cardiologists and other healthcare providers. The technician will also be responsible for ensuring patient comfort, explaining procedures, and maintaining accurate records in compliance with healthcare regulations. The standard of care shall be of a quality, meeting or exceeding all recognized national standards.

Principle Accountabilities:

• Perform echocardiograms and other cardiac ultrasound procedures to assess the heart's structure and function.
• Collaborate with cardiologists and healthcare teams to interpret test results and aid in patient diagnosis.
• This role requires expertise in handling a variety of medical devices, performing routine inspections, troubleshooting malfunctions, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will be able to explain procedures to patients and address concerns, ensuring comfort and minimizing anxiety during testing.
• Maintain and operate echocardiography equipment, ensuring proper functioning and safety standards.
• Document patient information, test results, and procedure details in patient records.
• Monitor and maintain patient safety during tests, following all infection control and safety protocols.
• Stay current with advancements in cardiac imaging techniques and technologies. Consult with patients in an outpatient clinic setting if the patient is ambulatory.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Must have exceptional customer service skills.
• Employees shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the job requirements, including ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.

Education:

• Completion of an accredited cardiac sonography or related program.
• Proven experience in the maintenance and handling of medical instruments in a clinical or healthcare setting.
• Strong knowledge of medical devices, surgical instruments, and sterilization techniques.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair medical equipment as needed.
• Proficiency in using ultrasound equipment and interpreting diagnostic results.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative healthcare environment.
• Compassionate and patient-focused with a commitment to high-quality patient care. Must possess ACLS and BLS certification from the American Heart Association

Qualifications:

• Certification as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or equivalent preferred.
• Strong knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
• Certification as a Medical Instrument Technician (CMIT) through a recognized certifying body (e.g., CBSPD, IAHCSMM).

Duty Hours / On-call Requirements

• Generally speaking, VAMCs are open 24/7/365. Outpatient Clinics are typically day shift. Telehealth is 24/7/365. Response is required during an emergency activation.
• This position typically works the day shift, Monday – Friday 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. schedule with occasional on-call duties.

Travel:

• As required to satisfy the contractual obligations. Generally, travel is limited to commute from residence to the VAMC in Miami, FL. Commute is non-compensatory.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to sit for more than 8 hours per day.
• Must be willing to work overtime if necessary.
• Must be able, with advance notice to float to surgical sites within 15 miles.
• Must be able to use an elevator or walk up and down stairs.
• Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and carry up to 10 feet.
• Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders
• Must be able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print
• Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear
• Must be able to perform duties in an indoor or outdoor environment
• Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation
• Must undergo Urine Drug Screening (UDS).
• Positions require applicants to be US Citizens, 21 years or older.  Must complete criminal background check, and Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) background check.
