Position Summary: Responsible for performing a variety of clerical, environmental and organizational duties in support of designated providers and staff during clinic hours.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Clinic Coverage:
- Facilitates patient flow in the clinic by assuring patient check in processes are complete, calling for patients in the main waiting room and directing them accordingly within the clinic.
- Greets and prepares patients for provider or imaging exams, providing appropriate gown, shorts, etc.
- May complete patient check out or schedule imaging or follow up appointments as requested (i.e., return to work/school/sport, physical therapy orders, etc.).
- Provides patients with documentation pertaining to the visit and ensures that same documentation is appropriately captured for the patient record.
- Maintains exam room supply stock and keeps exam rooms clean and disinfected between patients as needed. Informs supervisor when supplies need to be reordered for supply room.
- May perform various tasks such as copying, faxing, scanning and filing documents to ensure a complete and accurate patient record.
- Assists by preparing electronic images or documents for providers based on individual preferences to facilitate appointments.
- Updates patient information in the EMR.
- Monitors patient flow to ensure that no patient is neglected or delayed unreasonably. Communicates with patient, patient’s family and staff to keep them informed of delays in the clinic schedule.
- May respond to patient concerns or questions, and communicates in helpful and objective manner, involving manager as appropriate.
- May prepare and/or sterilize medical instrument. Cleans and disinfects medical equipment as required.
- Provides cross coverage as assigned.
- May verify patient insurance coverage as needed.
- Performs other duties in support of providers, staff, and leadership.
Clinical Documentation:
- Obtain and document patient vital signs such as height, weight, blood pressure as required.
- Review and document patient information including allergies, medications, fall risk, immunizations, pharmacy preference and other health or social history as assigned.
- May provide and document the distribution of patient educational material (such as smoking cessation).
Patient Care:
- Perform patient care duties remove wound dressing, sutures, or staples, etc. as trained and directed by providers.
- Apply clean dressing as trained and directed by provider. Provides patient education regarding wound care.
- Provides care in the clinic setting with patients requiring immobilization including; removing orthopedic cast and/or immobilization devices. Assess wound or skin condition and communicate concerns appropriately to provider.
- Based on provider orders, provides fitting and application of various DME and orthopedic assistive devices.
- Educates patients and family members regarding application/use of various DME and orthopedic assistive devices.
- Educates patients and family members regarding billing for DME products and ensures that required documentation is completed.
- Prepares supplies and draw up injections for providers.
- May prepare and document specimens collected according to proper procedures.
- May support providers with PRP procedures including equipment preparation, and sample preparation and handling of biohazard waste.

- Works cooperatively with coworkers, providers, and management.
- Shares knowledge and insights with co-workers in a constructive manner.
- Willingly provides coverage to department, staying beyond scheduled ending time when clinic schedule demands it, volunteering to cover time off or unexpected absences, maintaining workflow in department without direct supervision.
- Addresses conflicts with person directly before involving manager or uninvolved peers.
- Is considerate of others with regard to taking breaks or meal periods, use of computer and telephone, and noise in department.
Policies and Procedures:
- Knows and complies with policies and procedures as enumerated in the Orthopedic One Employee Handbook and policies and procedures documents.
- Provides assistance and support to leadership in implementing policies and procedures as necessary.
- Actively participates in training, and conducting day to day work activity by adhering to all policies and procedures as enumerated in compliance and risk management programs.
Education, Experience, and Certification/Licensure Required:
High School diploma and completion of an accredited Medical Assisting program or a minimum of one year of equivalent experience is required. Other education may be deemed appropriate alternatives such as LPN or ATC with state licensure in Ohio. Previous experience in orthopedic specialty preferred. Customer service experience and basic computer skills required including keyboarding, electronic scheduling, data entry of patient information and use of email. Use of various office technology solutions including fax, scanning, printing required. Must maintain CPR certification.
