Position Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to perform administrative and clinical duties under the direction of a Physician. This role is crucial in providing comprehensive patient care and ensuring smooth office operations. The ideal candidate will have a passion for patient care and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare patients for examinations by performing preliminary physical tests such as taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature, and reporting patient history.
- Assist physicians during examinations.
- Draw blood and collect/prepare laboratory specimens.
- Prepare and administer medications as directed by the physician.
- Authorize prescription refills as directed by the physician.
- Contact patients regarding lab results.
- Secure patient information and maintain confidentiality by completing and safeguarding medical records.
- Perform diagnostic and procedure coding.
- Ensure exam rooms are neat, orderly, and fully stocked.
- Place patients on Non-Stress Test (NST) equipment and monitor progress.
- Perform telephone triage based on knowledge and physician-set guidelines.
Other Responsibilities:
- Schedule appointments and assist with patient follow-ups.
- Manage inventory and communicate supply needs to the Lead Medical Assistant.
Qualifications:
- Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Minimum of two years of experience in the healthcare industry.
- Medical Assistant certification or commitment to obtain certification within six months of hire.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Knowledge of medical procedures, coding, and patient confidentiality laws (HIPAA).
- Influenza (provided by practice) and COVID-19 vaccines and boosters are required.
