Job Details
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) will serve as a vital member of the clinical team, providing both medical and clerical support functions under leadership direction. Key responsibilities include:
- Escorting patients to exam rooms and preparing them for exams.
- Taking and documenting vital signs.
- Assisting with procedures, preparing and administering medications as authorized.
- Performing EKGs and drawing blood.
- Educating patients on office policies, medication management, disease management, home treatments, and special diets.
- Retrieving lab and x-ray reports, calling in prescriptions, and managing telephone triage.
- Obtaining referrals and authorizations and completing medical forms.
- Managing medical and office supply orders, stocking and cleaning exam rooms, and maintaining equipment.
- Ensuring compliance with OSHA standards for biohazard waste disposal.
- Adhering to HIPAA guidelines and performing accurate, ethical documentation at all times.
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
- Experience: Minimum of five (5) years in a physician office setting, preferred.
Certifications:
- Certification from a nationally recognized agency (required). Accepted certifications include:
- National Healthcareer Association – Medical Assistant Certification (CCMA)
- American Medical Technologists – Medical Assistant (RMA)
- National Center for Competency Testing – National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
- American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association, to be completed within 30 days of hire. Recertification required every two (2) years.
Skills:
- Computer proficiency and ability to multi-task.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Phlebotomy skills and experience, preferred.
