Job Summary
As a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS), you will play a pivotal role in addressing the emotional, social, and developmental needs of hospitalized children and adolescents.
- The CCLS focuses on easing anxiety and stress through interaction, play, and relaxation interventions.
- The CCLS must have excellent supervisory, research, and communication skills to educate and inform patients and families about medical tests and treatments.
- The CCLS collaborates with other disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes while supporting the organization's vision and mission.
- The CCLS considers patients' age and cultural diversity in patient care.
- This position is a requirement for the facility's certification with California Children Services (CCS).
Experience
- One (1) year of previous experience working as a Child Life Specialist in an acute hospital setting is preferred
- Completion of Child Life internship is required
Skills
- Must be proficient in child development, age-appropriate behaviors, and interventional therapies for Pediatric patients
- Possess excellent oral, written, and customer service skills
- Must be able to always follow HIPPA regulations and carry out other duties as assigned
- Bilingual preferred
Education
- Master’s Degree in Child Life, Child Development, or Education preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification as a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) obtained within the first year of employment
- Must successfully complete and maintain BLS certification
- Must successfully complete and maintain LA City Fire Card certification at the time of hire or within the first 30 days of employment
Specific Responsibilities
- Therapeutic Environment:
- Provides a normalized, therapeutic, and safe environment for individuals and groups in Pediatric, PICU, Radiology, Same Day Surgery, and ER settings as stipulated in the CCS guidelines and requirements.
- Therapeutic Interventions:
- Develops therapeutic interventions utilizing the program’s resources.
Patient and Family Education:
- Plans, coordinates, and participates in patient and family teaching, in-service education for department staff, pediatric students and volunteers, community education programs, and special events.
- Special Events Coordination:
- Collaborates with the child life team to coordinate special events such as holiday celebrations, parties, and the participation of outside individuals in department programs.
- Professional Development:
- Responsible for his/her continuing education to maintain professional development.
- School Referral:
- Completes school referral for home/hospital teaching when appropriate.
- Other Duties:
- Perform other related duties as required in an accurate and timely manner.
Salary Range: $28.15 - $35.35 per hour
