Position SummaryResponsible to ensure that all surgical instruments, and equipment are properly inventoried, decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, stored, distributed, and tracked in a timely and high-quality manner for the corresponding department. Work independently with minimal supervision and serve as a resource to the Operating Room and Ancillary customers.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Entry level Central Sterile instrument processing experience preferred.
- Provisional Certification Required.
- 400 hours certification training recommended.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and anatomy preferred.

- Employees may be exposed to chemicals required to perform their tasks. Any hazardous chemicals that employees may encounter are listed in the hospital's Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database, which can be accessed through the hospital's intranet site under Employee Tools/SDS Access. A copy of the SDS database is also available at the hospital switchboard and saved on a disc.
- Must be able to lift and transport heavy objects weighing 25-50 lbs. and stand for extended periods to perform job duties safely and effectively.
- Must have the ability to concentrate for extended periods of time required for the position frequently.
- Must have the ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Must be able to focus despite distractions and interruptions.
- Must be able to organize, prioritize and execute multiple tasks. Must be flexible and able to adapt to changes in routine.
- Work requires attention to detail and requires mental/visual acuity.
- Must be able to detect object close and far away and sounds with background noise.
- Must have the ability to distinguish between dull and sharp items and properly dispose.
- Must be able to identify malfunctioning equipment.
