Job Summary and Qualifications
The Central Sterile Educator develops and maintains training programs for all SPD staff, coordinates and documents competency records, and maintains certification records for all SPD staff. This role develops, implements, evaluates, revises programs of orientation, in-service training, workshops, and continuing education. The Educator performs a range of clinical, consultative and educational activities within the Perioperative and Sterile Processing areas.
What qualifications you will need:
- Certification as a CRCST-IAHCSMM (Certified Registered Central Service Technician / International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management) required
- Minimum 1 year of experience as an OR Scrub Technician and/or Sterile Processing Technician required
- Certification as CHL-IAHCSMM (Certification in Health Care Leadership) preferred
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
- Prior leadership or supervisor experience preferred
What you will do in this role:
- Create and evaluate new policies, protocols, or procedures as demanded by new rules, guidelines, standards, or equipment purchases dictate in conjunction with management.
- Develop and implement interactive, scenario-based learning programs for sterile processing related responsibilities.
- Conduct and incorporate an annual needs assessment for competency of staff.
- Assess the competency and evaluates the proficiency of the of sterile processing staff.
- Provide guidance for sterile processing certifications and continuing education units for certification renewals.
- Revise and update on-line course work, competencies, etc. based on departmental changes that are in line with new regulations.
- Provide individualized orientation and education for all instrument care and SPD staff in conjunction with the Perioperative Education staff.
- Assist with new hire orientation for the sterile processing departments, which includes precepting, helping with onboarding paperwork and specialized training for staff.
- Schedule in-services for staff and vendors as needed.
- Keep up to date on new standards, regulations and other information related to AAMI, AORN, The Joint Commission and other regulatory entities.
