POSITION SUMMARY
Northern New Mexico Integrated Security, LLC, located in beautiful northern New Mexico, provides a professional, highly trained protective force that safely secures special nuclear material, people and other critical assets for the Department of Energy, the National Nuclear Security Administration and the Los Alamos National Laboratory. In the performance of Central Alarm Station Operator duties, the CASO is an unarmed position responsible for maintaining routine and emergency communications for the Protective Force and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) operations. The area of operation encompasses Los Alamos County and the immediate surrounding areas containing government facilities, commercial establishments, and residential areas. The CASO works under general supervision to process authorized and unauthorized security alarms, custodian requests, dispatch security personnel, request fire and police department personnel and coordinate maintenance activities for the security monitoring system. Shift work is required. Experience working in a collective bargaining environment is preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct status checks of the security system.
- Change the state of alarmed security areas.
- Process and dispatch unscheduled security alarms.
- Process malfunctioning and nuisance alarms.
- Coordinate and facilitate alarm maintenance with LANL personnel.
- Perform as Emergency Response Coordinator as appropriate.
- Respond and react to signals as they appear to determine if dispatch of a unit is necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience:
- Work is performed onsite. Position is not remote.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Currently have, or be able to obtain and maintain, a DOE Q level security clearance.
- Currently have, or be able to obtain and maintain, certification in the Human Reliability Program (HRP).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid, unrestricted New Mexico driver’s license.
- Must meet the Security Officer/CAS Operator skills requirements outlined in Department of Energy (DOE) Order 473.2A.
- Must be a qualified Security Officer or Security Police Officer or have the ability to successfully complete a DOE Basic Security Officer (BSOT) course and site-specific training programs.
- Knowledgeable in general terminology and philosophies used by emergency medical or police dispatchers, clear text and forward calling philosophies and use of phonetic alphabet.
- Ability to communicate in a professional, effective manner.
- Intermediate level computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and database systems.
- Ability to obtain and maintain proficiency with the Protective Force computer scheduling system.
Desired Education and Experience (Considered a Plus):
- Working knowledge of the Protective Force General Security Orders, Post Orders and Supplemental Security Orders, as well as the Code of Federal Regulations, specifically 10 CFR 1046 and 10 CFR 1046 and Department of Energy (DOE) orders.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining strict attention to detail.
- Ability to apply independent judgement and make decisions in emergency and crisis situations.
- Ability to exercise initiative and work under pressure.
- Working knowledge of the Trunked Radio system.
- Military, security or law enforcement experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office and in the field in various conditions, including inclement weather. There is a possibility of being placed in life-threatening and adverse situations while protecting the safety of the public and national security. Work hours are 12-hour shifts, days or nights, including weekends and holidays.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical demands of this position may vary from situation to situation. Required fitness standards are contained in 10 CFR 1046. May be required to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 50 pounds. Must have visual acuity to make general observations of facilities or structures. May be subject to hazards including moving vehicles and firearms. Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching and bending throughout the workday. Required to be fitted for a respirator and use as necessary.
