Overview:
Directs and assigns specific tasks to inspectors and assists in all phases of the construction project, exercising initiative and independent judgment in the solution of work problems. Will be responsible for the progress and final estimates throughout the construction project duration.
Responsibilities:ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Prepare construction inspection summaries of daily activities
- Review drawings, specifications, and other contract documents for constructability (plans, specs, shop drawings)
- Review detailed records of the contractor’s daily operations including manpower, equipment, construction methods, and events that affect the work
- Track / measure completed work quantities for payment
- Manage the team of inspectors, coordinate their schedules and oversee their work and records
- Monitor work zone traffic control plan and identify discrepancies and potential issues
- Monitor the erosion control plan and identify discrepancies and potential issues
- Oversee and accept project sampling and testing of component materials and completed work
- Verify the dimensions and calculations of prepared and completed work
- Analyze complex construction/design problems requiring the development of new or improved techniques or procedures and consults with design engineering personnel
- Inform Client on project issues and provide them with recommendations
- Interact with Project Managers and clients in a proactive manner to determine what routine issues affecting project management need to be addressed
- Maintain construction project records in accordance with FDOT procedures
- Interface proactively with the project managers, contractors, and inspection staff on various facets of the project including review of contract plans and documents, day-to-day construction activities and review of contractors’ submittals
- Perform/oversee the review of daily inspection reports and quantity computations

- Ensure timely completion of time sheets and expense reports

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A Civil Engineering degree plus two (2) years of engineering experience in construction of major road or bridge structures, or eight (8) years of responsible and related engineering experience, two (2) years of which involved construction of major road and bridge structures
- Registered in the State of Florida as a professional engineer (or if registered in another state, have the ability to obtain registration in Florida within six (6) months) plus five (5) years general bridge construction experience, for which CEI services are being provided by this scope or for non-degreed and/or non-registered personnel eight (8) years of general bridge construction experience, for which CEI services are being provided by this scope
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience as the Project Administrator in primary control of the type of construction project for which CEI services are being provided by this scope
- Must have, or be able to earn within 6 months, the following qualifications: CTQP Final Estimates Level II, FDOT Advanced MOT, CTQP Quality Control Manager Course
- Attend a FDOT accredited post-tensioning training course and pass the examination (for post-tensioned CC2 projects), Attend a FDOT accredited grouting training course, and pass the examination (for post-tensioned CC2 projects)
- Complete the Critical Structures Construction Issues, Self Study Course, and submit the mandatory Certification of Course Completion form
- Valid Driver’s License and a clear driving record
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited university may be substituted for one year of engineering experience
- Florida Professional Engineer (PE) License or EIT License
