The ideal candidate will supervise contractors in carrying out maintenance tasks and facility enhancements. Key duties involve verifying that installations meet company specifications and are operational. The Cathodic Protection Technician is our field expert in ensuring quality data observing, recording, and measuring the effectiveness of cathodic protection (CP) systems as they perform their duties specifications, international standards, and codes. In this role, you will lead survey teams performing tests, repairs, and maintenance related to pipeline corrosion monitoring.
The CP Technician works under the direction of the Special Projects Superintendent, who will assign additional responsibilities to the CP Technician as required. The duties assigned to the CP Technician will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Coordinate and supervise all site operations, ensuring safety, timeliness, and adherence to company standards while managing equipment and materials.
Enforce and promote a 'Safety First' working culture by practicing all company safety and environmental policies.
- Conduct comprehensive CP Surveys (CIS, ACVG, DCVG, PCM) on various metallic structures, including pipelines, tanks, and other assets.
- Perform detailed inspections, troubleshooting, and maintenance of cathodic protection systems.
- Install, test, and monitor CP equipment to ensure effective corrosion control.
- Analyze survey data and prepare comprehensive reports.
- Collaborate with engineering and project teams to develop and implement effective CP solutions.
- Keep abreast of industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to cathodic protection.
- Provide technical support and expertise to internal teams.
- Identifying outside currents negatively affecting company operations
- Read shunts and recognize their use in rectifiers, bonds, and anodes
- Maintaining interactive work relationships with Specialists and Engineers to accurately and effectively complete job responsibilities.
- Understanding the Contract document as it relates to their duties on the project
- Recognize safety issues specific to CP and take a proactive approach to safety on the job site
- The CP Technician may be assigned additional duties and responsibilities relating to tank corrosion mitigation.

- Quarterly test reads
- Communicate effectively and collaborate with coworkers to achieve project goals.
- Actively participate in additional training to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Complete all required paperwork accurately and efficiently within specified timelines.
- Submit detailed daily reports and costs when applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the business.

Education & Qualifications:
- Possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record that meets the standards for a driving position, as evidenced by a passing Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Proficiency in computer usage, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, is required.
- Must be a self-starter and possess the ability to work independently.
- Position Requires NACE Cathodic Protection Technician (CP2) Certification.
- Position Requires a minimum of two years of corrosion control and cathodic protection survey experience
- Knowledge of CP system installations, reference electrodes, junction boxes, cables, and rectifiers
- Knowledge of various Test Station types and how to obtain required readings for each type
- Experience performing close interval, DCVG, ACVG surveys.
- Experience operating electronic pipe locators, including PCM.
- Experience installing, configuring, and removing rectifier interrupters.
- AMPP Basic Coatings Inspector Certification or higher preferred
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Obtain Operator Qualification (OQ) status as required by the project
- Must be able to communicate to other team members and client personnel clearly.
- Must be able to write clearly and concisely to prepare reports and correspondence.
- Skilled with M.S. Office suite
