Background
Since 1976, St. Joseph Center has been meeting the needs of low-income and homeless individuals and families in Venice and throughout Los Angeles County. The Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community organization that assists people without regard for religious affiliation or lack thereof through 20+ programs in four pillars of service: Outreach and Engagement, Housing Services, Mental Health, and Education and Vocational Training. St. Joseph Center serves more than 10,000 people each year.
Brief Description of Principal Activities
Multifaceted intervention, prevention, mental health, and housing assistance is offered through street outreach and 9 service sites throughout Los Angeles County. St. Joseph Center also provides on-site services at five permanent supportive housing developments, and will provide services at an additional six more sites in the coming year. St. Joseph Center’s total holistic approach to services provide our clients with the help they need to regain their stability.
Job DescriptionJob Summary
The Case Manager serves as a team member with several social service professional and paraprofessional staff ensuring the delivery of quality as well as adhering to the mission of St. Joseph Center. The Case Manager will provide case management to homeless families experiencing domestic violence including service linkage and housing support.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Case Manager’s key areas of responsibility include:
- In conjunction with the Program Manager and case management staff, evaluate families for permanent housing.
- Be responsible for a caseload of up to 25 families. Establish a case management and safety plan for each family.
- Work closely with DV coordinator
- Provide referrals to any needed services including health, mental health, education, employment, vocational training. Serve as an advocate or liaison to other organizations when needed.
- In conjunction with the housing specialist, assist families with the identification of appropriate housing and with lease up including negotiation of rental agreement with landlord. On an ongoing basis, act as advocate with landlord as needed.
- Provide ongoing case management to families following placement.

QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Must be highly motivated and a self-starter. The ability to communicate with and relate to a diverse group of people including clients, community, and other staff. Must have excellent administrative and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of case management principles and intervention techniques specific to homeless populations or other under-served groups.
- Knowledge of housing market/housing programs is desirable.
- The position requires an ability to work flexible hours including some early mornings and evenings.
- Bi-lingual Spanish/English desirable.
Experience:
- One to two years’ experience providing case management services/advocacy with homeless and low-income families and/or families experiencing domestic violence.
Education:
- Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in social work, human services, psychology, or a related field. A combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Direct Reports:
- This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Computer Skills:
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and widely supported internet browsers.
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:
- Valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
- Valid automobile liability insurance.
Travel Requirements:
- Must be able to travel to clients home for home visits when needed and to SJC office at least twice a week

Additional Information
Status: Full-Time/Non-Exempt
Salary: $22 - 22.50/hr
