Purpose of Job:
To assure each Heavy Equipment Operation (HEO) enrollee advances to the level necessary to attain related certifications and gainful employment. Responsible for the coordination and implementation of the HEO program at Southern Tech while maintaining compliance with school regulations, Southern Tech board policy, Oklahoma Department of Career and Technical Education requirements, State and Federal Laws.

Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- A provisional Oklahoma Teaching certificate is required,must apply within within two weeks of hire date.
- Standard Oklahoma Teaching Certificate preferred or willingness to obtain in accordance with district policy.
- A Class B CDL with P & S endorsements, Class A preferred; or ability to obtain
- A minimum of 3 years in the last 5 years work experience operating various types of heavy equipment such as bull dozers, backhoes, road graters, excavators, etc.,
- Must attend and successfully complete the first available National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) HOE instructor certification course.
- Experience with survey, planning and finishing grades.
- NCCER Master Trainer, Craft Instructor or Master Craft/Technician Instructor, required within 90 days or when training available.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Working knowledge of computerized office programs, Oklahoma School Law, federal and state laws, and the Southern tech education system.
- Function as an effective Southern Tech team player.
- Ability to function professionally during high stress situations.
- Ability to implement, facilitate, and complete multiple projects in a timely and efficient manner.
- Ability to load & unload heavy equipment on a trailer.
Physical Requirements:
- Sit for extended periods, stand and walk as required in classrooms.
- Manipulate computer keyboard.
- Keen hearing: (ability to listen to others)
- Vision: Close and distance vision required.
- Be able to communicate.
- Be able to properly and legally operate a school vehicle as required to travel on behalf of the district.
- Regularly lifts up to 25 lbs., occasionally may push pull up to 100 lbs. & lift up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel & climb.
Work Environment:
Primarily a classroom/shop environment; walking and working with students and staff. Secondarily, outdoors on a simulated construction site working on or near moving mechanical equipment, around fumes or airborne particles, working around loud noises associated with construction/maintenance machinery or equipment, and in outdoor weather conditions.
