JOB SUMMARY:
Produces images of the heart muscle and functioning by setting up ultrasound equipment, attaching electrodes to chest and equipment, operating and adjusting equipment, recording cardiac data and measurements for all in patient and out patient adult and pediatric resting echocardiograms.
EDUCATION/LICENSURE:
Graduate of an AMA accredited school of allied health professions or equivalent. Must be a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) registered/eligible or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certified/eligible. Requires current Basic LIfe Support (BLS) certification.
OTHER DUTIES/QUALIFICATIONS:
Scheduling outpatient exams, knowledge of strain and 3D imaging, GEVivid E9 and VE95 preferred. Previous experience in performing ultrasound examinations of the cerebral, peripheral and abdominal vessels preferred, or williness to be training within one year of hire. Participating in on call shift rotation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TECHNICAL
- Utilizes proper patient identification procedures prior to ultrasound examination, verifies physician orders, documents in medical record when appropriate, and performs procedures correctly per departmental policy and vendor guidelines.
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the ultrasound equipment.
- Obtains and documents patient's history, documents lab work results, obtains patient's Imaging Services film jacket and physician orders.
- Delivers individualized patient care consistent with established standards of care, policies and procedures, and other regulatory standards.
- Explains procedure to patient and identifies patient’s significant other's need for patient education; provides education or identifies appropriate resources to the patient.
- Performs sonographic studies as required, records results on film or as appropriate, demonstrates anatomy and pathology to Radiologist during real time examination.
- Remains knowledgeable of all current departmental policies and procedures and protocols.
- Performs routine maintenance duties in the Cardiovascular Department.
- Observes equipment for proper functioning and reports malfunctions to Supervisor.
- Updates patient's film history and charges patient's account through hospital computer system accurately and in a timely manner.
- Completes department specific competencies per DOH requirements and hospital policy, including CME requirements.
- Monitors patient flow and adapts schedule according to shifting priorities
- Participates in "on-call" duties with other Cardiovascular Technologists. Per Technologist qualifications, may participate in “on-call” duties in general Ultrasound.
- Maintains a clean and safe environment in the department utilizing established infection control techniques which promotes quality patient care.
- Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care.
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
- Performs other duties as required.
