Title: Echo Tech / Echocardiographer / Cardiac Sonographer

Location: Medical Center, San Antonio, TX

Summary:

Vighter is seeking Echo Techs / Echocardiographers / Cardiac Sonographersto provide patient care support at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System. Echo Techs are responsible for the direct and indirect care of patients to ensure that the quality of the studies adhere to established standards. The Echo Tech will perform other functions as determined by the Supervisor in expediting the care of the patient.

Echo Tech Responsibilities:

• Perform diagnostic cardiac ultrasound: 111mode, twodimensional ultrasound contrast diagnostic ultrasound and bubble studies.
• Perform cardiac pulsed and continuous wave ultrasound doppler to identify and characterizeintracardiacblood flow patterns.
• Perform transesophageal cardiac ultrasound.
• Perform stress echocardiography (exercise or phannacologica).
• Knowledge of the equipment, standard tests and procedures, and typical readings including arrhythmias and abnormalities.
• Knowledge of typical patient reactions and signs of distress including the ability to recognize, report and treat potentially lethal arrhythmias.
• Knowledge of common equipment settings and standardized procedures plus knowledge of common errors and corrective measures.
• Modify procedures/positions to obtain the correct results with patients with complicating conditions such as amputations, Parkinson’s disease, structural defects, and scar tissue.
• Act as a mentor or preceptor to lower graded technicians.
• Conduct inservice training on the ECHO equipment and related instrumentation.

Requirements:

• Education: Graduate from a cardiovascular technologist program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) through the Joint Review Committee in Cardiovascular Technology (JRCCVT).
• Experience: Minimum two years experience in specialty.
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
• License: Have and maintain a valid, unrestricted license in any state, territory, or commonwealth of the U.S and/or certification as required. Registered as a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) as determined by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
