Camera and Optical Engineer – Job Overview:
Applied Concepts has an exciting opportunity at our Richardson R&D facility, where you will be contributing to our optical system design, image processing, and sensor technology as a Camera and Optical Engineer. Camera and Optical Engineer – How you'll make an impact:
- Optical System Design
- Design, develop, and optimize optical systems, including lenses, sensors, and lighting subsystems.
- Perform tolerance analysis, stray light analysis, and lens characterization to ensure system reliability.
- Camera System Development
- Design and implement high-performance camera systems tailored for specific applications.
- Integrate and optimize camera modules, ensuring seamless compatibility with broader systems.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams to integrate optical and imaging solutions.
- Provide guidance on optical materials, manufacturing processes, and system-level design trade-offs.
- Image Processing and ISP Optimization
- Optimize Image Signal Processor (ISP) pipelines to enhance image quality and performance.
- Develop and implement algorithms for auto-focus, auto-exposure, and white balance.
- Testing and Characterization
- Conduct optical testing and evaluate image quality metrics to meet performance standards.
- Use advanced optical test equipment to validate designs and troubleshoot issues.
- Documentation and Reporting
- Document design processes, testing protocols, and results for internal and external stakeholders.
- Present findings, design proposals, and performance analyses in a professional and clear manner.
- Research and Innovation
- Stay current with advancements in optics, imaging technology, and related manufacturing processes.
- Propose and implement innovative solutions to improve system design and performance.
Camera and Optical Engineer – What you'll need to succeed:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field. Degrees in Optics, Physics, or Electrical Engineering are ideal for this role.
- 5+ years of experience in optical design, lens characterization, and system integration.
- Proficiency with optical design tools such as ZEMAX, CODE V, or equivalent software.
- Deep understanding of CCD and CMOS sensor architectures and performance characteristics.
- Strong knowledge of image quality metrics, optical materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Expertise in lens design, including tolerance analysis and stray light mitigation.
- Familiarity with optical test equipment and methodologies.
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C++.

- Proven ability to analyze and improve ISP architecture and performance metrics.
- Experience working in interdisciplinary teams to deliver integrated optical solutions.
