Overview
Who’s ready to experience, first-hand the venue management industry? We are looking for a talented college student who are looking for practical, real-world experience in the event and entertainment industry for the Grand River Center intern program. Our immersive internship program will provide access to every area of convention center management and event planning including Marketing, Food & Beverage, Operations, Sales and Event Management.
This role will pay an hourly wage of $13 to $15.

About the Venue
The Grand River Center is a full-service meeting and event facility located in the heart of downtown Dubuque, Iowa. Newly renovated in 2020, featuring over 40,000+ square feet of meeting and exhibition space for events up to 2,000.
Responsibilities
- Understand how to conduct marketing research, market events, and help to create an positive guest experience
- Assist in developing and implementing event marketing plans and promotions
- Attend meetings that include brainstorming sessions and explain how to execute event ideas
- Assit in prospecting, cultivating, selling and maintaining relationships to aid in the sales process of premium seating and corporate sponsorship
- Experience all aspects of the event planning process from connecting with clients to communicating event details to staff.
- Learn the daily operation and maintenance of the facility and all systems. This includes HVAC, sound, lighting, ice making, fire protection, life safety, workplace safety, communications, and event set-up and tear-down
- The candidate will also support the Food and Beverage Manager in the day-to-day operation of the Food & Beverage Department, including learning and operating the POS system, receiving orders, and assisting with inventory controls
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, the ideal candidate will:
- Be a self-starter and self-motivated.
- Must be comfortable working in an extremely busy environment
- Have experience in retail, catering, concessions, and/ or alcohol service to the public in a hospitality setting is highly recommended.
- The individual must be outgoing, energetic, motivated & professional.
- Team player with excellent customer service and analytical skills
- Proven ability to solve time-sensitive issues.
- Possesses good organizational skills.
- Proactive in making suggestions, creating new ideas & trouble shooting while paying close attention to detail.
- Prior experience with point of sales systems,
- SERV Safe Certification, preferred.
