About the Job
Our client in Oakland County, MI is seeking a highly skilled and experienced CAD Designer to join their dynamic energy storage product development team. As a CAD Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing and developing cutting-edge energy storage solutions. The CAD engineer will support 3D modelling of concepts and prepping 2D drawings for various structural, electrical and thermal components and assemblies.

Responsibilities
- Design and develop high-quality 3D models and engineering drawings for battery/grid structure, electrical and thermal systems
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to translate technical specifications and sketches into accurate and detailed 3D models using industry-standard CAD software (SolidWorks/NX)
- Create and maintain engineering drawings, including assembly drawings, part drawings, BOMs, and 2D production drawings, ensuring adherence to company standards and best practices
- Conduct design reviews with respective DREs and identify potential issues for early resolution
- Generate and maintain revision history for all models and drawings
- Participate in prototyping and design validation activities
- Stay up-to-date with the latest CAD technologies and advancements in the battery and grid space
- Maintain a strong understanding of design principles and best practices
- Ensure clear and accurate communication with team members and stakeholders
- Effectively manage time and workload to meet project deadlines
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical design, with a focus on creating single line diagrams, wiring diagrams, submittal drawing packages, cabling harness layouts, and other relevant electrical documentation for products and sites.
- Proficient in SolidWorks, NX, and Teamcenter is mandatory but in industry-standard electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, etc.) is a plus
- Understanding of engineering principles and design for manufacturability (DFM)
- Strong 2D and 3D sketching and drafting skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Detail-oriented and quality-focused
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and regulations. Cable and conduit sizing and selection following the NEC is a plus.
- Experience: 5+ years in CAD Design.
- Education: Associate's Degree (Bachelors Preferred)
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in NX, SolidWorks, Microsoft Office.
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with automotive batteries and energy storage system
- Soft Skills: Proactive, adaptable to change, excellent time management, and a strong commitment to teamwork
