Buyer/Planner - PGT Innovations

Under general supervision, manages flow of raw materials, spare parts, and materials required for the maintenance, repair, and operations of the company. Coordinates material needs for manufacturing lines of difficult complexity or with greatest financial impact if errors occur.  Initiates and follows established procedures.  Makes decisions affecting the financial performance of the company.  Executes strategic action plans. Implement and maintain processes that support Supply Chain department metrics.

Responsible for assuring that stock levels are maintained at the lowest possible level while achieving the contract specific and agreed service requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Manages planning necessary to ensure that production lines have necessary materials on hand to ensure efficient use of production personnel and timely completion of production orders.
• Determines inventory needs to maximize inventory turns and cash flow management.
• Compiles and maintains manual or computerized records such as material inventory, in process production reports, and status and location of materials.
• Recommends changes to procedures based on experience and research.
• Provides input on strategic plans and leads action plan teams.
• Monitor and enhance supplier performance through effective use of supplier scorecards.
• Understand, interpret, and analyze requisitions or request for orders and engineering changes.
• Obtains oral and written prices quotes from MRO vendors.  Compare quotes with the specification and availability of items and places MRO orders.
• Prepares MRO purchase orders through a computerized system and places orders for the purchase of goods and services in a timely manner.  Print, fax or email PO’s to suppliers.
• Verify data accuracy (parts numbers, BOMs, Part Costs) in MRP: report problems to Inventory Control.
• The Buyer/Planner will help to set up part numbers for purchased items as needed, including pricing, costing, lead time, supplier, and ERP planning information.
• Capable problem-solving skills to accept frequent challenges, with simple to moderate scope, that confront typical shop floor environments (scrap, labor and machine constraints, production delays, quality and tooling issues, etc) and to manage those challenges effectively.
• Prepares purchase orders.
• May approve invoices for payment.
• Confers with internal departments, including quality control, production, inventory control and receiving to determine inventory needs and investigate supplier problems, such as quality issues and availability.
• Determines corrective action when problems are encountered, including returns and exchanges of unacceptable goods.
• Expedites delivery of goods to users and follows up with complete communication of action taken.
• Ensures that procurement records are maintained to document items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
• Create raw materials purchase orders in Sage.
• Keep QT9 updated with the $ unit value.
• Responsible to order non-inventoried items.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• BA/BS in Business preferred.
• Demonstrate planning, analytical, organizational and project management skills.
• Customer service skills a plus.
• Proven cost reduction track record.
• Experience using common PC software, including MS-Word, MS-Excel, and MS-Access, working knowledge of ERP with an understanding of bills of materials and supporting data of the operating system and understanding and ability to apply the principles of Lean Manufacturing and Kanban systems required.
• The Buyer/Planner must also possess excellent negotiation, verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to read prints, including a basic understanding of tolerances and finishes.

LANGUAGE / COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Bilingual (English & Spanish) preferred.

• Work in both air-conditioned office environment and non-air-conditioned plant environment.
• Must be able to move freely and navigate through production floor.

Ability to travel occasionally domestically.
