Description
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Buyer to join our Purchasing department! The ideal candidate will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing materials, goods, and services to meet our company's operational requirements. Our Buyers work closely with suppliers and internal teams to ensure timely procurement of products at the best possible cost and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage inventory balance to optimize and support supply chain requirements
- Initiate purchase orders and amendments for parts, services and/or special tools; arrange for submission and inspection of sample products as required; maintain close coordination with plant to ensure timely execution of product sourcing activities.
- Secure and analyze quotations, negotiate prices and terms with suppliers, and recommend suppliers with respect to cost, quality and delivery competitiveness.
- Review and take action on MRP results by creating, releasing and confirming purchase orders.
- Enter and maintain planning parameters for purchased materials and information related to vendor master data within the ERP system.
- Communicate quality notifications to vendors and create purchase return orders to return discrepant material.
- Manage supplier and commodity performance to meet company and individual metrics utilizing relevant procurement strategies, and mitigate supply chain risk.
- Coordinate quality matters and engineering changes/developments between company and vendors.
- Act as the leading representative between internal departments and supplier.
- Study market prices and trends, engineering developments, and manufacturing method improvements applicable to assigned responsibilities; advises company activities with concurrence of a senior buyer and/or the director of purchasing.
- Interview and confer with current and prospective suppliers to determine supply capabilities, transportation logistics inventory control and management; negotiate prices and delivery terms with guidance from a senior buyer or the director of purchasing for assigned responsibilities.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Proficient in problem solving, process analysis; capacity to troubleshoot and correct problems in high-pressure situations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with employees, customer and vendors at all levels of organization
- Firm commitment to customer service excellence in all circumstances
- Experience with equivalent production and inventory control procedures; experience with shipping and receiving procedures, transport insurance, loss and breakage control.
- Outstanding time-management skills with proven ability to manage multiple projects at a time while meeting deadlines
- Good judgement skills with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
- Self-motivated, resourceful and adaptable; able to work independently within team focused environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 software; ERP experience (Epicor or SAP) preferred
