About the Job
The Buyer II position performs activities in support of material purchasing, inventory support, and vendor communication in the manufacturing department in support of the department objectives to provide goods and services that meet customer’s requirements for quality, quantity and timeliness. The primary role of the Buyer II is to manage the flow of inventory; to coordinate purchase orders, shipments, and deliveries; and to establish and maintain good supplier relationships.

- Location: Lake Zurich, IL
- This person reports to the Materials Manager and works across many different departments as well as dealing with external customers.
- The hours are flexible, but expected that this person should start between 6:30 and 8am. 8 hour shift and a 30 minute unpaid lunch break.
- Pay range: $22.00 - $31.00/hour
Responsibilities
- Responsible to follow company system, including all applicable SOP's included in the Training Matrix
- Experience in buying/ purchasing from a regulated manufacturing environment
- Inventory Management
- Determine raw material requirements based on new orders and computer ERP generated information
- Continually review and evaluate ERP data to ensure proper inventory levels as well as striving for JIT delivery
- Communicates regularly with production and engineering departments to attain new project needs and assist in set up of items in ERP system
- Coordinate delivery of raw materials with scheduling, customer service, shipping and receiving and engineering
- Works closely with Inventory personal to maintain Kanban and or min / max levels
- Supports cycle count and corrections
- Material Purchasing
- Key driver of the procurement process and responsible for adjustments to order quantities with input from Scheduler
- Negotiate with suppliers on pricing, delivery and services, obtain new requests for quotes
- Purchase production materials as necessary to anticipate customer needs while managing optimal inventory levels
- Purchases non-inventory supplies
- Initiates purchase orders and amendments for materials and services
- Escalate supplier issues to Materials Manager when appropriate
- Regularly reviews open orders with regards to changes in demand and inventory position, reschedules/cancels orders accordingly and corrects open PO’s to update necessary changes
- Maintains accurate vendor data with regards to quotes, lead times and vendor performance
- Follows up with vendors to address issues or confirm deliveries
- Complete all transactions in ERP system as required
- Purchase and negotiate materials, supplies terms and lead times from vendors
- Handle all aspects of purchasing for medical manufacturing facility
- Understanding of supplier Quality Agreements and standards
- Support Quality Department in review of suppliers
- Communicates opportunities for action to the Materials Manager.
- Responsible for continuous improvement actions with developing, expanding and maintaining an effective supply chain procurement process
- Assists in other work related areas as required
Requirements
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to follow instructions, clearly asks questions, offer relevant information, and maintain productive relationships with colleagues
- Experience with ERP order entry systems and common computer software
- Ability to handle multiple deadlines in a changing environment
- Team player with good interpersonal skills and effective communicator, both verbally and in writing
- Purchasing in a manufacturing environment
- 2-5 years of experience in a buyer /purchasing role
Education
- Degree in a related field of study or equivalent experience.
