POSITION SUMMARY
The Business Relationship Officer focuses on recruiting, engaging, and activating new business accounts to support the organization’s goals. Key responsibilities include building and maintaining relationships with business account members, executing outreach initiatives, and representing Monterra Credit Union at corporate, community, and partnership events. Success in this role requires a proactive, results-driven approach, strong relationship-building skills, and a commitment to expanding Monterra’s community presence and impact.
This position works on-site at our Corporate Office in Redwood City, CA.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Business Accounts Membership Development
- Contacts potential business members to obtain and foster new business deposit relationships and expand the credit union’s portfolio. Offers services such as credit cards, ACH, desktop deposit, merchant and payroll services to business members.
- Presents Monterra Credit Union business products, services, and financial wellness solutions to diverse audiences to grow membership.
- Maintains the business portfolio and reaches out to current members to enrich the member experience and deepen their business relationship with Monterra Credit Union by linking services of value and educating the business members on how to easily navigate our product and service solutions.
- Collaborates with branch managers, staff, and leadership to identify prospects, organize efforts, and enhance member engagement.
- Partners with Business Lending/Commercial Loan Officer to identify opportunities to enhance our business deposit product and/or service offerings, works with Commercial Loan Officer to ensure proper onboarding of new businesses.
- Collaborates and coordinates with the marketing department to facilitate promotions and activities that enhance business relationships. Attends or participates in community events by attending a minimum of 2 community events monthly and more frequently as opportunities present themselves.
- Researches and maintains a thorough knowledge of business deposit policies and procedures, keeps up to date on regulatory changes, and maintains familiarity of new business deposit product or service trends.
- Business Accounts Administration
- Serves as the Credit Union’s centralized business account subject matter expert, supporting and assisting the Director of Operations and VP, Member Experience related to business deposit products, services, and training as needed.
- Supports business members by accepting unresolved complex member inquiries and works directly with members to research and explore potential solutions. Works with Operations, Business Lending, and Branch Managers to identify and resolve business member inquiries or service issues.
- Provides guidance and answers to business account inquiries, ensuring a deep knowledge of Credit Union products and policies to deliver tailored recommendations.
- Opens new business accounts and provides complete new member onboarding.
- Cross-sells Monterra products and services
- Assists with managing business member relationships
- Data Management and Reporting
- Collects and manages business account information, tracking key metrics and ROI for membership and business development efforts.
- Creates and distributes detailed performance reports to management, highlighting trends and opportunities for growth.
- Provides monthly reporting (on demand as requested) of Business Deposit portfolio. This includes but is not limited to; total business deposits, total business memberships, net growth, accounts opened by entity types .

- Provides service that aligns with the Credit Union’s mission of passionately delivering relevant products, services, and education tailored to help our members, employees, and communities achieve their financial goals.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
- Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and laws enforced by the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business management, communications, or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years of business development or account management experience, ideally within banking or retail settings.
- Must be knowledgeable about business products and services offered by Monterra.
- Strong customer service, sales, and relationship management skills, with a proven ability to coordinate prospecting, maintain client relationships, and manage contact databases.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to translate information into actionable growth plans.
- Highly organized with strong time management, multitasking, and project management abilities to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, independent environment.
- Exceptional communication skills, including effective written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation capabilities, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiar with market segmentation strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze processes, develop detailed procedural documents, and create actionable insights.
- Reliable transportation with a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance; ability to travel up to 80% of the time, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in all situations and foster sound relationships with others at all levels.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing schedules and priorities.
- Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred.
