About the Job
The Department Director is responsible for all departmental functions in support of the hospital’s mission, vision, and facility goals. The Director identifies the cost-effective systems needed to support the department’s business, taking into account business trends, resource availability, and customer changes. This position establishes effective working relationships with all constituencies, including patients, physicians, employees, volunteers, and vendors. The Director identifies and remedies through continuous customer satisfaction data and employee involvement. The Department Director works with Senior Management in meeting Facility goals. The Business Office Director oversees all functions of Collecting/Billing/Insurance.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for building and maintaining a diverse team of insurance verification/authorization specialists, hospital-based billing specialists, hospital insurance collection specialists, and customer service representatives.
- Comply with all Medicare, Medicaid, and Managed Care Payors regulatory requirements. Identify any issues and guide corrective action.
- Review/establish productivity and work standards for all jobs within the Business Office.
- Monitor bad debt trends and identify ways to reduce hospital bad debt expense.
- Monitor compliance with all Business Office and Hospital policies and procedures.
- Continually review internal processes to ensure the most effective and efficient processes.
- Review coworker performance and provide feedback regularly.
- Prepare periodic A/R and other reports for the Senior Director, Revenue Cycle.
- Continually monitor cash collections to ensure tracking of cash goals. Provide corrective action plans when necessary.
- Develop specific objectives and standards for each area of responsibility.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field.
- Equivalent work experience may substitute degree requirements.
- A minimum of five years of hospital business office experience or related field is required.
