RESPONSIBILITIES
The Business Intelligence & Analytics Manager/Lead oversees all activities and functions involved with the company’s Business Intelligence platform, giving mortgage company business leaders access to reliable, actionable data to better manage and understand their business and drive company growth. This includes definition, specifications, testing, documentation, and project management of new and/or existing internal and third-party Business Intelligence applications, including the implementation, administration and maintenance of Power BI applications/reports and their users. Responsibilities also include the BI platform’s interaction with data sources such as SQL data warehouse and necessary structuring and querying of data in source systems owned by IT and others. As the leader of this small but critical team you’ll have the opportunity to execute on development of reports and dashboards yourself, while guiding and developing a team and interacting with executives across the business to understand and deliver on their needs.
Depending on candidate qualifications and experience position can be either a Lead or a working Managerial position.
Data Analytics and Reporting
• Partner with business leaders to understand requirements and improve opportunities to drive insights into action through data analytics and reporting support in a centralized data warehouse and reporting environment
• Lead the development and timely implementation of complex dashboards and reports utilizing Microsoft Power BI: Mentor team members on solution design and delivery, providing guidance to team members on the dashboard/report architecture, design, development, update process and optimization of Power BI dashboards, reports and scorecards to meet business requirements leveraging advanced statistics and modeling techniques
• Champion business use cases leveraging data measurement, analysis, and reporting company-wide and act as subject matter expert (SME) regarding the development of compelling BI business cases, including generating and revising BI business cases and gaining senior management buy-in to accomplish business objectives
Governance of the Data Environment
• Create standardized processes and database structures and manage and maintain business data for reporting and intelligence purposes
• Manage the creation, compilation, modification, maintenance, and updates of data sets used by the department
• Collaborate with IT and external partners on database management and streamlining and automating regular data capture and reporting
• Ensure stability, performance and support of production reporting and meet demand for data across business teams
Team/Function Development and Identification of Improvement Opportunities
• Supervise small team by providing ongoing support and mentorship
• Ability to view teams projects and prioritize / assign resources appropriate to meet all internal and external deadlines.
• Work with team members to provide opportunities for growth and development.
• Develop deep knowledge of core data domains and drive value from the intersection of different functional views of the mortgage origination process
• Manage the identification and use of appropriate analytical technologies and integration of internal or external data sources into the data warehouse
• Have knowledge of and make recommendations on purchase of external data sources, software, and services to enhance data quality, completeness, and use
• Conduct staff development and training sessions as indicated, including preparing and presenting information on data and business concepts and standards
• Collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer and business partners in the determination and establishment of program priorities, policies, and procedures• Stay up to date with new technologies, software, and development practices
QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience developing and managing Business Intelligence and reporting solutions/dashboards through tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Cognos, with preference given to Power BI
• 5+ years of experience in: data analysis and data management; reporting tools such Power BI, Tableau or Cognos; programming in DAX, SQL, SAS, MS Power Query, Visual Basic, and Python; and data warehouse platforms
• Strong SQL skills, ability to perform effective querying involving multiple tables and subqueries.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, etc
• Mortgage background strongly preferred
Reporting Skills
• Ability to think conceptually and abstractly, with excellent analytical skills and experience creating reports and processing large volumes of data
• Ability to display complex quantitative data in a simple, intuitive format and to present findings in a clear and concise manner
• Ability to perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting techniques to quickly identify and resolve bugs and / or data-related issues
Communication Skills
• Clear, concise, and effective verbal and written communication, able to communicate with business and data consumers, technical partners, and organizational leadership to motivate, advise, and influence.
• Strong presentation skills, including ability to articulate complex problems in a simple manner
Project Management Skills
• Excellent business execution, project management, and delegation skills, along with a service mindset.
• Strong ability to plan and manage numerous processes, people and projects simultaneously.
• Proven experience with team collaboration on projects and meeting rigid timelines
• Experience with Agile project management methodologies and concepts to manage team’s workload and projects effectively
Data Science Skills
• Experience and working knowledge in extracting data from traditional data warehouse, big data ecosystems and cloud data warehouses to produce critical data for business analyst executives and operational leaderships
• Working knowledge of data science principles: predictive analytics, mapping, collecting data from multiple cloud-based data sources.
• Understanding of and experience using analytical concepts and statistical techniques: hypothesis development, designing tests/experiments, analyzing data, drawing conclusions, and developing actionable recommendations for business units.
• Experience and knowledge of statistical modeling techniques: GLM multiple regression, logistic regression, log-linear regression, variable selection, etc.
• Experience writing advanced data science code statements, models, and macros.
