Job Description:Job Summary: Responsible for all business development activity within specified divisions/product lines
Essential Functions / Process Responsibilities
- BDM I is the entry-level job for Partners who have progressed from the Associate BDM job OR for new hire, smaller categories, or less complex categories
- Develops strategies for categories
- Participates in product development
- Creates cluster/space plans and Store Assortment plans for execution
- Negotiates costs with vendors
- Works collaboratively with Pricing, Retailing Services, Supply Chain, Product Information, and other related areas
- Plans budget and develops strategies for achievement of plans
- Builds collaborative relationships with suppliers
- Participates in corporate promotions
- Works with Product Flow, H-E-B Supply Chain and Suppliers to ensure consistency of supply and service level objectives
- Communicates effectively with all other functional departments
- Works within work processes and influences improvements
- Understands complexities of all aspects of product/commodity ('Seed to Stomach' in applicable categories)
Education and Experience preferred
- A related degree or comparable formal training, certification, or work experience
- 6+ years of related experience
- Experience in management in retail distribution and inventory management
- Experience successfully working complex issues with senior management
- Experience in negotiation (preferred)
Key Competencies preferred
- Advanced knowledge of computer software packages / PC use (MS Office, H-E-B systems, internet, e-mail)
- Strong verbal / written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and shift focus between projects / tasks; attention to detail
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to make key decisions on a daily basis
- Ability to manage people for efficiency
- Initiative; willingness to take risks
Physical and Other Requirements
- Function in a fast-paced, retail, office environment
- Travel by car or plane with overnight stays
- Work extended hours; sit for extended periods
