As a Business Development Manager for Optimim, you will be responsible for building an effective pipeline of opportunities and winning new business at prospect accounts to drive significant sales growth for the company.
Optimim is located in Wilsonville, OR, and manufactures metal injection molded components by combining extensive engineering knowledge with their own specialized manufacturing technologies. The company provides cost effective solutions for its North American customers by identifying opportunities to redesign or consolidate products and assemblies through metal injection molding. It is a subsidiary of Form Technologies, a global manufacturing organization with revenues of more than $1 Billion.
The right candidate for this job is a road warrior skilled in opening doors and establishing effective relationships in new accounts or divisions. He/She challenges the status quo at these customers through industry expertise and insight and shows the value for the customer in having Optimim experts solve their complex, precision-engineered part solution challenges. We are looking for a national sales engineer for the US. The ideal candidate will live in the Portland metropolitan area and will work out of a home office while also spending time at the plant, and traveling up to 50%.
This position is eligible for a base annual salary plus incentive.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the assigned prospect accounts and deliver significant sales growth through winning new opportunities
- Effectively establish relationships in new accounts or divisions and quickly understand each account organization to identify the right key stakeholders to regularly engage and sell
- Develop strong relationships with these key stakeholders and serve as their go-to resource for helping them solve complex, precision-engineered part solutions in their businesses
- Use insight and consultative selling techniques to teach customers about their industry and offer unique perspectives about their business that link back to Optimim's capabilities
- Show the value of Optimim's solutions and drive urgency for deal closure by highlighting the lost opportunity of not choosing Optimim
- Partner with Application Engineering and Plant Engineering to accelerate new business wins and customer satisfaction
- Prepare and drive effective pursuit plans to speed relationship development, enhance the quality of the sales pipeline, accelerate deal closure, and improve the customer buying experience
- Identify new opportunities to broaden Optimim's reach at the account and to include all Form Technologies' divisions
Education, Skills, and Attributes
- 2+ years prior experience with sales or successful account prospecting; specific industry experience will also be considered in lieu of sales experience.
- Bachelor's degree preferred; prefer engineering or other technical degree.
- Previous MIM industry experience, or an understanding of tooling, design, and metals is beneficial. An engineering background is ideal.
- Demonstrated Business Acumen - must talk the language of the customer's business including profit, expense, cash, productivity, labor and risk and the ability to align solutions that create value for the customer
- Strategic Thinker - understands/hypothesizes customer challenges, pain points and implicit needs and systematically develops plans to address and solve. Reaches out to internal team to collaborate on solving complex deal challenges.
- Hunter Mentality - demonstrated "hunter" mentality for finding, developing, and delivering new business
- Great Communicator - tailors communications to fit the needs of the customer with authority; highly effective at presenting formally & informally; excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Networking - identifies the right stakeholders and builds connections quickly to drive consensus for deals; works cooperatively with the range of key stakeholders to ensure deal success.
- Travel - Willingness to travel up to 70% to meet with customer stakeholders
