We are seeking a passionate Business Development Manager to join our Sales Team and help advance our mission of reducing greenhouse gas emissions at scale. Due to our geographical market focus, we are looking for experienced candidates in Arizona, Portland Oregon, Seattle Washington, or Denver Colorado areas.
About Taper
Taper, powered by Ecology Action, is dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas emissions at scale by making energy efficiency easy for large commercial businesses. We provide energy savings solutions to large commercial customers by brokering multi-site projects between utility funded incentive programs, installation partners, and equipment vendors. Taper is a wholly owned B-Corp subsidiary of Ecology Action; it's nonprofit and single shareholder.
About the Role
The targeted focus of this position is direct sales to regional and national food retail, big box retail market segments, as well as recruitment of channel partners selling into these spaces. The Business Development Manager will be responsible for identifying and recommending comprehensive energy efficiency solutions across a customer's, or partner's business portfolio, using a consultative sales approach to secure the projects. We are looking for someone who is excited about the opportunity to penetrate and grow Taper's presence in this market and has a mix of experience in energy efficiency, specifically refrigeration and lighting technologies, and understands the food retail sector.
What you'll be doing
- Customer Engagement and Sales
- Build and maintain relationships with decision makers.
- Prospect, qualify, and develop key partnerships.
- Sell to regional and national food retail, big box retail, and commercial accounts.
- Ensure high levels of customer service and satisfaction.
- Conduct energy efficiency audits and gather energy use information.
- Use consultative sales techniques to meet customer expectations.
- Data Management and Reporting
- Maintain accurate CRM and audit data.
- Provide timely pipeline reports to management.
- Market Awareness and Business Development
- Stay updated on new market technologies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners.
- Continuously prospect for new business opportunities.
- Attend and speak at conferences and networking events.
- Cold call with persistence.
- Adapt to evolving market conditions.
What We're Looking For
- 6+years of multisite account level sales experience or 8+ years of equivalent sales experience building highly consultative customer relationships over time
- Proven experience selling energy savings measures based on Net Present Value, Internal Rate of Return, and other financial metrics
- Experience developing relationships with and facilitating conversations about funding multiple-site local or semi-national accounts as well as with C-Suite level clients
- Demonstrated strong communication, written, and formal presentation skills with strategic accounts.
- Self-motivated, pro-active, results-oriented professional with an ability to work with minimal direction
- Proficient in MS office products and experience maintaining a CRM
- Ability to prioritize with good time management and organizational skills
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be qualifying.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of large multi-site food retail level sales experience
- 3+ years proven experience in energy efficiency, refrigeration, HVAC, building management systems, or other related fields
- Experience working and selling into a channel
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
- Experience with HubSpot or equivalent CRM
