About the Job
Health Advances is seeking a Business Development (BD) Analyst to support the firm’s senior leadership in executing business development processes to build client relationships and support our mission of creating an enduring, positive impact on healthcare globally. The BD Analyst will play a key role as part of the Commercial and Growth team executing workstreams to support the business development process to identify, qualify, and progress leads to opportunities to write compelling business proposals. The BD Analyst will help customize selling materials and proposals, manage lead and opportunity activity in CRM, facilitate the development of new business via proactive outreach, prepare for sales meetings and industry conferences, and collaborate on other internal business development and marketing initiatives. This role requires attention to detail, a sales mindset, analytical thinking, and strong organizational skills. Excellent communication skills and collaborative teamwork are critical for success. Knowledge of healthcare is preferred but enthusiasm to learn about healthcare is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with developing selling presentations/proposals and tracking project proposals / client activity in CRM
- Work with senior leadership to track and enter leads, client contacts and proposals in our CRM system to facilitate collaboration and follow-up
- Incorporate relevant information into a preliminary selling presentation or proposal using existing template(s), with appropriate level of direction from others and increasing level of independence over time. Example tasks include:
- Use our company database to identify previous project examples (qualifications) which are pertinent to proposed project and assemble into a client-ready set of slides
- Find case studies (vignettes) or disguised examples from past work for relevant background
- Include relevant market information from other presentations and proposals
- Proofread and refine graphics if requested
- Facilitate the development of new business via proactive outreach: customer leads, prospects and opportunities for Health Advances
- Collaborate with VP BD and Strategy, BD teams and VPs/Partners to develop market strategies to generate leads with new clients and re-engage past clients
- Identify potentially attractive client prospects
- Track customer needs and potentially attractive inflections for outreach (e.g., client news)
- Draft client messages to facilitate generating new sales opportunities
- Schedule introductory business development between SMEs and target company decision-makers
- Support preparation for conferences, sales calls and meetings. Example tasks include:
- For calls that require complex scheduling, coordinate calendars of the client and Health Advances
- Prepare client overview packets with bios, portfolio of key products, basic financials, and key news items
- Conduct top-level research on the market landscape and key competitors
- Gather information from related past proposals, selling presentations and/or project presentations
- Identify any internal experts
- Identify key players connected to the client prospect with whom we have prior/current relationships
- Monitor key news sources to help senior management team be aware of important news items related to key areas of focus and clients
- Assist with Marketing operations - conferences, speaking engagements, white papers, publications and marketing materials
- Sit as a member of the cross-functional “Marketing Hub” which executes marketing functions and advises marketing strategy for the organization
- Draft, proofread, and/or post compelling content on the company website and social media
- Prepare client mailing lists for marketing efforts or events, send out invitations and use CRM to track responses
- Support Partner and VPs with identifying ways to promote content and grow the HA brand
- Collaborate with BD team, sector-specific BD Committees, and other functions to suggest and help maintain resources and execute projects to drive efficiency in the BD process. Example tasks could include:

- Assist with file management and templates for selling presentations/loops, bios, case studies, and shortcuts to relevant proposals for each BD therapeutic area or sector
- Analyze statistics on the number of projects and deals we have completed in a relevant area
- Attend sector-specific BD Committee meetings, contribute to development of solutions to strengthen our competitive positioning
- Maintain and update BD Intranet sites
- Collaborate with other departments such as Business Solutions and Knowledge Management) to refine processes and BD tools

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following education, skills and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required, science or business-related field preferred
- 1-3 years of relevant healthcare sales and/or marketing experience preferred, investment banking, consulting, healthcare industry, business development, venture capital experience a plus
- General Skills required:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Comfort with numbers, analytical, research and project management skills
- Self-starter; able to work/prioritize independently with an appropriate level of direction from others
- Proactive problem solver
- Highly organized and efficient
- Proficient in Microsoft Office systems; Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Proven record of teamwork in a professional setting and/or through extracurricular activities
- Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization
- Must live in the Boston area and work in the Newton office on Tuesdays plus either Wednesdays or Thursdays
- Specific Skills preferred:
- Experience with CRM software (Microsoft Dynamics or other) and/or marketing automation products (ClickDimensions or other)
- Familiarity with healthcare and life sciences industries
- Previous experience in business development, sales, prospecting, or marketing (in a work setting and/or through extracurricular activities)
- Customer-centric sales mindset – proactive and adaptable approach to building relationships with potential customers, actively pursuing sales opportunities to achieve set goals, while demonstrating a continuous learning mindset to adapt to changing market dynamics and internal and external customer preferences

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The base pay range for this role is $60,000-65,000 USD. You are eligible for an annual incentive program (with a reasonable first year estimate ranging from $0-$3,900 USD). Both of these are subject to the rules governing the programs, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
