The successful business architect enhances the alignment of strategy to technology execution by translating long-term business strategies into assessments of capabilities that support the future state architecture. The architect will recommend capability enhancements through collaborative engagements with key stakeholders and guide investment and execution by developing multi-year integrated roadmaps. Success in the role requires developing trusted relationships across business and IT teams, facilitating cross-functional collaboration among stakeholders using impactful documents and interactions, and leveraging business and technological experience to evaluate strategic plans, assess capabilities, review emerging technologies, and recommend targeted actions that advance business interests. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:- Works with business and IT leaders to establish a future state model of technology, process, information, and skill capabilities that align with business strategies and consider competitor’ actions, market innovation, and digital disruptors that impact the business area’s goals. Recommends changes to plans or investments, with a focus on growth, profitability, customer experience, and risk. Identifies opportunities for improvement in the form of cost savings, process improvements, or technology consolidation by levering capabilities in new ways.
- Evaluates gaps in business capabilities that impact the achievement of a future state and communicate recommendations to stakeholders using suitable artifacts and techniques. Establishes multi-year roadmaps that achieve the future state, align supporting teams, and guide investments.
- Visualizes growth opportunities and translates roadmaps into actionable recommendations for teams and stakeholders by leveraging a deep, expansive knowledge of the organization’s internal IT business processes. Supports the estimation of work and development of business cases to execute on recommendations.
- Collaborates with solution and data architects on selecting and aligning solutions to gaps in business capabilities while objectively weighing options, costs, benefits, and risks.
- Collaborates with project and operational delivery teams, in coordination with solution and data architects, to ensure continuous delivery of business outcomes, identify triggers to evolve the business architecture, and monitor closure of capability gaps.
- Collaborates with business process management to establish future state processes that align with the business units’ technology plan.
- Collaborates with product teams to ensure continuous delivery of business value, as well as to leverage shared technologies, tools, value streams and processes that impact speed to value and time to market.
- Builds and manages relationships with strategy and enterprise architecture teams to align enterprise capability needs and technology strategy.
- Uses business architecture methodology to create relevant artifacts: strategy on a page, capability heatmaps, roadmaps, and journey maps.
- Becomes a trusted advisor to business leaders developing and executing strategies. Acts as an internal consultant to Selective business leaders for new strategy development.
Knowledge and Requirements
- Five or more years of business experience with a direct responsibility for strategy formulation and/or translation, business analysis/analytics, business architecture and/or program management.
- Three or more years of experience working with technology solutions, including IT project, products, services, and capabilities.
- Able to communicate, influence, and persuade, both business and IT leaders, as well as peers, leveraging the language of business leaders.
- Trusted and respected as a thought leader who can influence and persuade business and IT leaders, while maintaining a high level of customer trust and confidence.
- Highly collaborative and supportive of business ideals and strategies.
- Organizationally savvy, comfortable, experienced, and accomplished at working with business executives, and able to push back in a professional and diplomatic manner.
- Unbiased towards products, technologies and vendors used or considered.
- Displays intellectual curiosity and integrity, while respecting freedom and responsibility.
