- Need to have a background in software development, ideally supporting projects where they have helped build a product from the ground up.
- Experience with Agile, Scrum, or Kanban desired.
- Will function as a BA/Product Owner - hybrid
- Need VERY STRONG communication skills and able to ask the right questions when gathering requirements
- Big plus if they have experience working with a CMS, LMS, or a background in education/learning
We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst who can take the lead in translating the operational needs of the business into requirements for implementation. More specifically, they will be working closely with business owners and their agile team to create and enhance features within our proprietary education management system (EMS). Due to the nature of this position, the applicant will need the ability to work from home or during off-hours as necessary.
Responsibilities:
- Communicate effectively with business owners and their agile team on a regular basis, ensuring the successful delivery of software based on clear expectations.
- Develop rapport and trust with business owners and key stakeholders.
- Fill the Product Owner role on an agile team, representing the needs of the business and exhibiting ownership in the product.
- Elicit business requirements using interviews, discussions, and analytics, to ensure we are fulfilling the needs of the business.
- Develop user stories with acceptance criteria based on business requirements and add them to the product backlog.
- Maintain and prioritize backlog based on priorities of the business.
- Serve as the subject matter expert of the product they are responsible for and have strong knowledge of our systems overall.
- Assist the agile team with reproducing and analyzing defects as well as testing features as needed.
- Lead by example by identifying process improvements and working with fellow analysts.
- Accomplish department and organization missions by completing related tasks as needed.
- Schedule and host demonstrations of work at the end of each iteration to key business stakeholders and Software Development.
- Fulfill all roles and responsibilities with minimal guidance.

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
- 2–4 years of experience in leading projects, including gathering requirements, scope analysis, and verifying the completion of the project
- Any combination of the following:
- Experience serving as a Business Analyst in a web-based Learning environment
- Experience working with an Education Management System (EMS), and/or Student Information System (SIS), and/or Learning Management System (LMS)
- Experience working in the Operations side of the education industry
- Strong analytical skills required, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of executives, managers, and subject matter experts throughout the entire lifecycle of a project
- Excellent time management including the prioritization of tasks and controlling scope
- Ability to reconcile key stakeholder interests, conflicting priorities, and business strategy
- Education or working knowledge in business analysis or a strong working knowledge of our custom software applications
- Experience working with data-driven Web applications, preferably .NET
- An understanding of web technology and current trends – the what, why, when, and how of AJAX, HTML5, browsers, etc.
- Experience in working in an agile environment, including a strong working knowledge of the methodology, user stories, and iterative development
