General Summary:
Under general supervision, performs skilled preventive and corrective maintenance, inspection, repairs, and diagnostic work on electronic fare collection equipment, electronic destination signs, video surveillance systems, automatic passenger counters, radio systems, and other onboard electronic equipment. May perform additional mechanical-related maintenance and repair duties as required or assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs preventive maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, testing, andrepairs, as well as maintaining complex electronic systems on revenue vehicles.
- Must be able to troubleshoot to the board or component level. Maintain, troubleshoot, test, repair, install, and calibrate bus vehicle systems and subsystems.
- Uses test instruments and equipment for installing, servicing, and pre-testing electronic equipment
- Conducts diagnostic tests on systems and components with portable and on-board test equipment.
- Interprets current and voltage waveform and graphs; uses drawings and schematics.
- Interprets circuit configurations and integrated circuit flow diagrams to develop and implement practical solutions for operational faults of vehicle systems and components.
- Responsible for written communication concerning the ongoing status of repairs completed or in progress and any outstanding repairs.
- Responsible for maintaining all work areas in a safe and clean condition.
- Perform repairs to power plants, air conditioning and heating systems, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, and minor body repairs as assigned.
- Make road/service calls as required; operate DART vehicles if necessary.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the minimum below, excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.
- Associate's degree from an accredited college or university or certification from an accredited technical program in Electronics Technology, Mechanical Technology, or equivalent combination of education/experience in preventative and corrective maintenance on electronics.
- Must pass a technical test.
- Must have a valid Texas Commercial Drivers License (CDL) class B with Passenger Endorsement, no DWI/DUI conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI/DUI on driving record, and not more than two (2) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty-six (36) consecutive months on driving record to operate DART vehicles.
- Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical (medical) examination, which includes a drug screen to operate DART revenue and non-revenue vehicles; incumbents are subject to the federal testing regulations of safety-sensitive positions, which include random alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment.
- Must obtain and maintain certification in compliance with all state and federal regulations applicable to this position.
- Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with all supervisory and non-supervisory employees and others inside DART.
- Proficiency with personal computer (PC) andsoftware applications, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Access).

- Ability to have the functional and technical knowledge and skills to do the job at a high level of accomplishment.
- Ability to make decisions without guidance from others and to plan and carry out work assignments in situations where the procedures have been established.

- Must be able to communicate effectively with the public, co-workers, supervisors, and managers to ensure efficient operations, promote safety, and respond to emergencies. Must also be able to read and comprehend various work-related/required technical manuals, safety rules, and regulations.
- Ability to find solutions to mechanical and technical problems.
- Ability to work variable shifts, irregular hours, nights, holidays, weekends, and short notice availability. You may be required to travel to multiple work locations.
- Ability to be mobile and occasionally 70% - 80% of the work time. Lift objects weighing up to seventy - (70) pounds, such as tools, equipment, and parts. Must be able to work in crowded and tight spaces.
- Ability to use standard devices weighing up to 50 lbs, such as hand tools, portable shop test equipment for testing, and other required equipment to perform your job functions.
Working Conditions:
Works in an environment with dust, noise, or temperature exposure. May be exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals, assuming the incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
