About the Job
SUMMARY
Shall provide safe transportation for school students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
• Work considerately with fellow workers, principals, teachers, students, parents and other community members.
• Follow the operational rules and guidelines of the Department for Transportation.
• Follow the policies of the school district.
• Safely and per established schedule, transport students on bus routes, field trips and late runs, regardless of their location and the day of the week.
• Obey all rules and regulations regarding the operation of a school bus and equipment.
• Perform required safety checks and bus cleaning duties.
• Properly complete and submit required reports.
• Successfully complete all required training courses.
• Attend all required meetings.
• Make no change to duties, bus and/or route, without the approval of the Routing Coordinator.
• Operate special equipment, securing adaptive and assistive devices and occupants (wheelchair/lifters).
• Ability to install and uninstall a variety of child safety restraint systems.
• Drive all types of buses safely.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS
Pass required annual physical, criminal record check, and a prohibitive substance test, be able to recognize and provide basic assistance for all types of disabilities, know how to operate special-needs equipment, ability to manage student behavior, ability to administer basic first aid, in accordance with qualifications, friendly but firm in dealing with students, parents, school administrators and the general public, emotionally stable, dependable and punctual, possess good communication skills, including the ability to read and write English, ability to climb over and around a bus engine compartment to perform mechanical post and pre operations checks, possess the ability to deal with emergency situation, ability to evacuate a bus under emergency conditions and demonstrate the ability to do so without physical harm by quickly entering and exiting the rear emergency door, ability to reach bus controls without unauthorized seat, pedal or steering wheel modifications.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School Graduate or GED, experience in driving a large vehicle, experience in dealing with special needs
children.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, AND REGISTRATIONS
Commercial Drivers' License (with passenger and school bus endorsements). Region 12 School Bus Driver's Certification. Annual First Aid/CPR Course and yearly required DOT physical.
