Job Summary:
The Building Systems Engineer role focused on the operation and management of a building, ensuring optimal functionality and compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards. Will act as the liaison between Facilities and Engineering (F&E) and the building’s Functional Area. Will serve as the System Owner in Maximo, and ensures all building systems operate effectively while maintaining high standards of housekeeping and facility upkeep.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide facilities and engineering services support for buildings operations, maintenance activities, and projects including but not limited to:
- Act as the F&E Liaison with the Functional Area occupying the building. Manage escalations to/from F&E and Functional Area occupying building.
- Support Continuous Improvement and Productivity initiatives, programs, and projects.
- Coordinate activities such as maintenance, shutdowns, systems improvements, repairs, inspections, and walkthroughs.
- Prioritize any activity that requires immediate attention due to safety or regulatory risk.
- Ensure building systems are working properly.
- Act as System Owner in Maximo for the facilities and utilities located at the building, including responsibility as Building Technical Lead. Client will support the role with technical expertise from the AML F&E Department, but some basic technical knowledge is required.
- Ensure housekeeping in the facility and its surroundings is adequate.
- Complete zone inspection activities as required.
- Enforce that facility upkeep meets Amgen standards: architectural finishes, signage, furnishings, etc.
- Manage access to building, in alignment with Functional Area Owner (operation).
- Plan for repairs as needed: Request Amgen approval for temporary and permanent changes to the building.
- Identify equipment or furnishings that need replacement; support developing GLAM multi-year plan.
- Lead small projects in the facility and request financial support to Amgen when needed.
- Support changes driven by others, ensuring alignment with building plan.
- Submit EHSS Change Controls as needed.
- Support and be a liaison for Capital projects impacting building: ▪ Oversee project execution and manage Transfer of Care and Custody in compliance with Amgen standards.
- Ensure GMP activities under their responsibility in the building follow approved GMP procedures and are documented according to cGMP and/or GDP requirements. May also execute these GMP tasks:
- Identify, assess, and correct risks, to protect the safety, purity, quality, and effectiveness of the product(s) manufactured in the building.
- Perform asset periodic reviews.
- Own minor deviations and corrective and preventive actions as needed.
- Provide subject matter expertise to major investigations, change control records or validations (Client will own Quality Change Controls).
- Ensure that unplanned ARMS records are investigated, corrected (if applicable), managed and closed according to procedures and in a timely manner.
- Ensure that planned ARMS records are created, documented, managed, and closed according to procedures and timely manner.
- Act as Editor in any document related to the facility (Amgen will own SOPs).
- Own facility drawings (not regulatory, only facilities-related as applicable.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or other related engineering degrees.
- Minimum five (5+) years’ experience working in the mechanical engineering discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in engineering, design, operation, and/or maintenance of HVAC and industrial central utility systems, including purified water (RO/DI), steam, chilled water, and compressed gases.
- Ability to work with multiple teams consisting of operational staff, client stakeholders, project managers, external engineers and architects, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Intermediate to advanced English verbal and written communication skills.
- Direct experience with regulated environments (e.g. GMP, OSHA, EPA, etc.) is preferred.
- EIT or PE is a plus.
