Job Family: Falls under Engineering and Maintenance but is also heavy in IT. I will be releasing this request to both the D&T and Engineering and Maintenance Distribution List.
Resource's typical working day:
The Facilities Management Team delivers seamless service for critical support systems for its biopharmaceutical client's R&D Headquarters, consisting of 9 buildings in Cambridge, MA. Building Management Systems ( "Client's”) monitor and control mechanical infrastructure and are essential tools used at the 9-building, 2 million square foot Kendall Square campus. The Client controls building temperatures, chemical delivery, alarm monitoring, environmental condition tracking and other functions critical to scientific and laboratory operations. It requires seamless and constant connectivity, optimization, upkeep and troubleshooting, all while being able to identify and eliminate vulnerabilities. The Facilities Management Team relies on the Client to deliver excellent service for both proactive attention and emergency response.
As a Building Automation Systems and IT Controls Technician, you will provide program oversight for ensuring all building automation systems maintain 100% visibility, mitigating and troubleshooting communication losses, and facilitating maintenance with outsourced Vendors and IT Teams, to maximize efficiency and reliability, while minimizing impact to business and scientific operations.
This job is part of the Facilities Management Team and requires system controls knowledge with background and understanding of servers, connectivity, patching, firewall requests, IP address (whitelists), BacNet vs Modbus communication, revision updates and more.
A successful candidate for this role should have a basic understanding of various mechanical and automation systems with different integration methods and the ability to work well with Control Vendors (Automatic Logic Controls ( "ALC”) and Siemens) to actively optimize systems, support preventive maintenance efforts and repairs, and confirm Vendors' constant maintenance of system controls.
Years of Experience needed: 5 years of experience is required
Level of Education: Bachelor's Degree is preferred but experience could be in place of degree
Top Must have Skills:
Ability to read, understand and interpret construction drawings.
· Apply knowledge of standard principles, techniques and procedures for repairs, maintenance and implementation of building management and automation systems. Recommend thoughtful and innovative solutions that drive reliability and process improvement.
· Communication and interpersonal skills are critical for this role: Collaborate with various members of IT, Management and MEP Trades Teams (Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC) to ensure comprehensive approach to decision making. Be able to interpret and explain complex and critical information accurately.
· Balance the need for deliberate and critical thinking, with attentive response to emergency requests; escalate for additional assistance, as needed.
· Inspect systems to ensure equipment operation is within design capabilities and achieves the operational conditions prescribed by Vendors and industry experts.
· Complete maintenance and repair records as required. Be comfortable learning new platforms: training provided to utilize client's work order platform.
· Exhibit diligent follow up to hold various global teams accountable for assigned tasks.
· Complete assigned training on timely basis.
Support investigative efforts, audits, and any other administrative tasks related to building automation systems and controls, as assigned.
