Job Title: Building Automation System (BAS) Engineer
Job Summary:

As a BAS Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of maintaining and improving critical building automation systems, ensuring energy efficiency, safety, and operational excellence. You'll monitor various automation systems-such as temperature, humidity, air pressure, and more-across our facilities, swiftly responding to alarms, identifying issues, and taking action to protect equipment, personnel, and research operations. Key Responsibilities:
System Monitoring & Performance: Oversee the status of key automation systems (BAS, fire monitoring, research-related systems, etc.), ensuring that all equipment operates within optimal parameters. Quickly respond to alarms and issues to safeguard system integrity.
Energy Efficiency: Proactively monitor and assess the building automation system to promote energy-efficient operations and reduce waste, contributing to sustainability initiatives.
Troubleshooting & Support: Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and control system technicians to diagnose and resolve equipment issues, ensuring minimal downtime and rapid system recovery.
Work Order Management: Log and track system and equipment issues in the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System), providing clear, detailed work orders to facilitate quick resolutions.
Trend Analysis & Training: Review system trends and performance reports to build your expertise and continually improve your technical knowledge. Stay up-to-date on the latest developments and best practices.
Collaboration & Communication: Work seamlessly with BAS technicians, mechanics, electricians, and external teams to ensure a smooth workflow, especially during commissioning, troubleshooting, and system startup.
Documentation & Change Control: Maintain accurate records of alarm activities, system changes, and lockout/tagout logs. Ensure compliance with all SOPs and provide necessary documentation for any system changes or updates.
Safety & Compliance: Support safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout procedures, and ensure all operations adhere to safety standards and regulations.
Team Support: Support HVAC Supervisors, BAS Engineers, and other personnel in day-to-day operations, commissioning, troubleshooting, and system startups.
Desired Qualifications:
- High School diploma required; trade school certification or degree is a plus.
- General understanding of BAS systems, particularly Siemens, Honeywell, and JCI, with a focus on their application in industrial/commercial environments.
- Familiarity with basic HVAC systems, controls, and alarms.
- Strong understanding of automation system architecture (headend controllers, local controllers, communication networks).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word for reporting and documentation.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
- Calm and composed in high-pressure situations, especially during alarm events.
- Ability to quickly learn new concepts and stay on top of industry trends.
- Willingness to work in varied environments, including field sites, while adhering to safety standards and wearing appropriate PPE.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk/stand for extended periods in the field.
- Flexibility to travel to different sites and work in varying climates, with proper PPE in place.
