About the Job
CDE Lightband, the municipal power provider for the City of Clarksville, offers electric, television, Internet and phone service to customers within the city limits. CDE Lightband serves over 70,000 metered homes and businesses with electric service and over 20,000 customers with broadband services over our Fiber to the Premise Network. We are looking for a Premise Installation Technician to join our Broadband Division.
As an important part of our Broadband Customer Experience, incumbents provide in home service and/or installation to Broadband customers. Responsibilities may include maintaining an inventory of supplies; installing and repairing wiring and broadband services; educating customers; resolving service quality issues; and maintaining accurate records.

Job Summary
Incumbents provide in home service and/or installation to Broadband customers. Responsibilities may include maintaining an inventory of supplies; installing and repairing wiring and broadband services; educating customers; resolving service quality issues; and maintaining accurate records.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Installs, configures, tests, and maintains fiber optic technology and equipment which may include splicing distribution fiber; testing fibers; and performing related duties.
- Provides hands-on assistance for premise installation and customer service issues
- Prepares and maintains a variety of operational records.
- Educates customers on equipment and basic troubleshooting procedures, Conducting all work in a professional, courteous and civil manner with a helpful and friendly approach
- Performs other duties as assigned of a similar nature or to provide assistance as needed
Qualifications
Education: | High School Degree or Equivalent |
Experience: | One-year specialized training in Broadband and telecommunications installations and/or one year experience in home or commercial wiring and Broadband installation highly favored |
Certifications & Licenses: | Driver's License / CPR/AED or ability to obtain upon hire |
Other Requirements: | Equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job also considered |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledgeable of Premise Installation communication installation, implementation and maintenance
- Knowledgeable of basic fiber to the home broadband network design and maintenance practices and procedures
- Knowledgeable of Customer service principles and practices
- Skilled in Basic Computer and related software applications
- Skilled in installation of Premise Installation Network, and troubleshooting and resolving complex premise installation issues;
- Skilled in Reading and comprehending training documents
- Skilled in Organizing and presenting data
- Ability to provide a high level of customer service through verbal and written communication
- Ability to work independently and individually, and to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both written and through the spoken word.
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems

Working Conditions
- Indoor & Outdoor working position, requiring incumbents to travel from office to worksite via company vehicle.
- Requires constant indoor and outdoor installation work, which could frequently include high extended ladder heights, crawl under or between wall space or in tight spaces with little light or ventilation
- Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, workspace restrictions and travel.
