POSITION TITLE: Bookkeeper
CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
SALARY RANGE: $25 per-hour

POSITION SUMMARY: The Bookkeeper works under the general supervision of the Accountant. The Bookkeeper maintains accurate records of the organization's payable and receivable financials via standard accounting journal entries, digital and physical organization of documents, and management of finance-related project timelines. This position is on site and is estimated to work 20 hours per week.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Manage the accounts payable function including:
- Ensure proper approval and supporting documents for invoice payment requests.
- Save invoices electronically.
- Manage active vendor list in the accounting system.
- Print checks, obtain signatures and mail checks. Create ACH files.
- Reconcile credit card balances monthly and collect appropriate support.
- Prepare year end 1099 forms for vendors.
- Investigate outstanding checks.
· Record receipts into the general ledger.
· Support the reconciliation of receipts relating to Shop sales, Membership payments, Community Programs registration and fund development events.
· Assist in quarterly sales tax filing.
· Create and manage bank deposits as needed
· Record recurring journal entries.
· Prepare general ledger account reconciliations.
· Maintain historical records.
· Assist with the annual audit via schedules and supporting documentation.
· Other Duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or bookkeeping experience in place of a degree.
· Proficiency with general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable and reconciliation process.
· Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail; manage deadlines.
· Excellent computer capabilities (such as Microsoft Office and accounting software).
· A commitment to diversity and strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills
· Requires the physical mobility to sit or walk for moderate periods and occasionally carry or lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
· Able to work a flexible schedule to support council events, functions, and board meetings
· Valid driver's license and own transportation; ability to travel within Suffolk County
